CHICKEN SCRAMBLE RULES & REGULATIONS
1. The Logan County Fair Association, U of I Extension/Logan County, nor the
sponsors will be responsible for any accidents connected with this contest.
2. Any 5 or 6 year old boy or girl who will be 5 or 6 by August 3, 2011 may sign
up. Sign up will be limited to the first 16 applicants; applications are due at the
close of office hours on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. and no
call-ins will be accepted.
3. PREVIOUS WINNERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE.
4. Each participant must secure an application blank from the 4-H office and have
it signed by their parent or guardian.
5. While one contestant has hold of a chicken, no other contestant will be allowed
to touch it. If two contestants catch a chicken at the same time, the chicken will
be turned loose. Chickens must be carried and put in a pen.
6. The Special Scrambles Committee will act as referees and judges in all cases
under protest and their decision is final. The contestants catching chickens will
receive a prize. No one leaves the area until all the chickens have been turned
in. They will not be allowed to take the chickens home.
7. Those entering the scramble MUST meet on Wednesday, August 3 at the
Show Pavilion at 7:00 pm to be eligible.
8. Every participant in the Chicken Scramble will receive a Dairy Queen certificate
from the Logan County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee.
“KID” GOAT SCRAMBLE (Maximum 12 particpants)
Wednesday, August 3 – 7:00 pm – Meet at Show Pavilion

2. Any 7, 8, or 9 year old boy or girl who will be 8 by September 1, 2011,
may sign up. Sign up will be limited to the first 12 applicants. Applications
are due at the close of office hours on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at
4:30 p.m. and no call-ins will be accepted. NOTE: 7 year olds must turn 8
before September 1, 2011 and must join Logan Co. 4-H the following year.

3. Each participant must secure an application blank from the 4-H office and

turned loose. Special instructions may be given to participants such as
catching with one hand or staying on knees.
6. The Special Scrambles Committee will act as referees and judges in all cases
under protest, and their decision will be final.
7. Each contestant will be provided with a halter; this halter may not be used as a
lariat. The halter must properly be placed on the goat, and the animal must be
led to the holding pen. Each halter is the property of the 4-H “Kid” Goat
Scramble, and must be returned after the scramble. Scramblers who do not
return halters will be charged. Those individuals obtaining a “kid” goat will be
provided with a collar to take their animal home.
8. Contestants catching goats must:
a) Join 4-H the following year and participate in a Logan County 4H club.
b) Take the goat home from the fairgrounds the night they are
caught immediately following the Scramble.
c) Show the goat at the 4-H Goat Show.
d) Maintain the health of the goat and report unusual incidents
affecting the continuation of the project to Lora Fanning (7963651). Any expenses hereafter are the responsibility of the
scramblers.
9. Those entering must meet on Wednesday, August 3 at 7:00 pm in the 4-H
Show Pavilion.

PIG SCRAMBLE RULES & REGULATIONS
1. The Logan County Fair Association, U of I Extension/Logan County, nor the
sponsors will be responsible for any accidents connected with this contest.
2. Any 4-H boy or girl who is exhibiting in the 4-H Club Show this year is eligible
to enter the contest. Others will be screened by the committee.
3. Each participant must secure an application blank and have it signed by a
parent or guardian and the Youth Educator or 4-H Leader. Applications are
due at the close of office hours on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 4:30
p.m.
4. Contestants must be 10 and not yet 15 years of age on August 4, 2011 to
participate in the contest. In cases where there are two or more club
members in the same family, only one is eligible to become a contestant in
each scramble.
5. PREVIOUS WINNERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE.
6. While one contestant has hold of a pig, no other contestants will be allowed
to touch it. If two contestants catch a pig at the same time, the pig will be
turned loose. Pigs must be carried and put in a pen.
7. Pig Scramble Committee will act as referees and judges in all cases under
protest and their decisions will be final.
8. The pig is the property of the scramble contestant who catches it. He/she
must remove it from the fairgrounds no later than 10 pm that night, otherwise
he or she forfeits the pig.
9. Those entering the pig scramble MUST meet on Wednesday, August 3 at
7:00 pm in the Show Pavilion before the Scramble to be eligible.

CALF SCRAMBLE RULES & REGULATIONS
1. The 4-H Calf Scramble is sponsored by the Logan County Beef Cattle
Producers, and the Logan County Fair Association with the cooperation of
interested businessmen in the county.
2. The maximum weight limit of calves in the scramble should be 350 pounds.
3. Interested youth who participate in the 2010 contest must be 12 and not yet 18
on August 3, 2011 and must be exhibiting this year. Applications are due at
the close of office hours on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. The
calf must be exhibited the following year. All participants must be a 4-H’er with
at least one year of large animal project (Beef, Swine, Horse, Sheep or Goat)
before entering the scramble.
4. Application blanks will be furnished by the Extension Office and must be signed
by a parent or legal guardian. This application sets forth the rules in detail and
includes a waiver of injury.
5. Eighteen interested youth may compete each year for the nine calves.
Participation will be on a sign-up basis – first come, first served. If more than
eighteen apply, names will be put on a waiting list in order of sign-up. Previous
winners are not eligible unless there are not enough participants. They
cannot be a previous Champion winner. Previous scramble winners may not
participate for one year.
6. The Calf Scramble Committee will act as referees and judges – and all cases
under protest will be referred to them for a final decision.
7. Contestant will be furnished with a halter. This cannot be used as a lariat. Only
one contestant on a calf at a time. Tail catching is not allowed.
8. Participants catching calves will be responsible for the calf the night they are
caught and are required to:
a. Take calves home from the fairgrounds or make arrangements with the
breeder. Participant must take possession by November 1.
b. Write a report to the Extension Office each sixty (60) days, beginning
Nov. 1
c. Show calf at 4-H Beef Show and the special 4-H Night Scramble Show
the following year. Fitting will be supervised by the Scramble Committee.
Judging for Scramble Steers will be based upon 35 percent
Conformation, 25 percent Grooming, 25 percent Showmanship, and 15
percent Records.
d. No prize money or awards will be given unless steer is shown in the 4-H
Show and Scramble Show.

e. Submit complete cost record of fattening steer to the Youth Educator at
fair time.
f. Report unusual incidents affecting the continuation of the project to the
Youth Educator and members of the Scramble Committee.
g. Consign scramble steer to the 4-H sale the following year and return 10
percent of the sale price and insurance premium to the Calf Scramble
Fund. Consigned steers are subject to the rules, regulations, and
information of the 4-H Sale, including that the buyer has first claim on an
animal if desired. If buyer does not exercise option of claiming the
animal, the steer is the members to do with as desired.
h. NO REPORT – No further participation in future Calf Scramble activities.
9. Those entering the calf scramble MUST meet on Wednesday, August 3 at
7:00 pm in the Show Pavilion before the Scramble to be eligible.
a. Parents are asked to attend the meeting also, if at all possible.
10. The Calf Scramble Committee reserves the right to remove any calf from any
participants possession at anytime.

4-H SALES
Sunday, August 7 – 2:00 p.m.
Rules, Regulations & Information
1. The sale will be conducted on Sunday, August 7, under the auspices of the
Logan County Youth Committee and their Sale Committee.
2. The sale is open to Steers, Barrows, Sheep Wethers, Champion and Reserve
Champion Rabbit Meat Pen, Meat Goat Wethers, Champion and Reserve
Champion Poultry Market Pens, State Fair Visual Arts Delegates, and Cakes
from Cake Classic. Only one animal or item per 4-H member may be sold
unless the member has more than one Grand Champion. If a member has a

scramble steer, that animal must sell as the member’s animal. In order to sell
2 animals using the scramble animal, the member must have a Grand
Champion of a show. In order to have multiple entries in the sale, an exhibitor
would have to have multiple Grand Champions and/or a scramble steer. Goat,
Rabbits, Visual Arts, and Poultry are not considered Grand Champions.
3. Sale animals and articles must be CONSIGNED by 9:00 am on Friday,
August 5. Decisions concerning show rights must be made then for Visual
Arts, Rabbits, and Poultry.
4. Only Logan County 4-H members who exhibit in the 4-H show are eligible to
consign to the sale.
5. Animals will be sold by the pound at their show weights except for Champion
and Reserve Champion Rabbit Meat Pens, Champion and Reserve
Champion Poultry Market Pens and Goat Wethers. For steers to qualify for
sale, they will have to weigh 900 pounds and those over 1400 pounds will sell
at 1400 pounds. Scramble, Grand Champion & Reserve Grand Champions
are excluded from weight limits.
6. The sale will start at 2:00 pm with buyer instructions.
7. Five percent will be taken off the top of each sale for advertising to promote
buyers and sale; and to help offset 4-H programming costs.
8. Buyers will pay the amount of the bid less market price stated sale day. Buyer
will have first claim on animal if desired, and needs to pay the 4-H’er market
price upon delivery of animal or at the Extension Office on August 8th. The
buyer must state their intention to want the animal at sale time.
9.
Buyers must pay within 48 hours of the sale into the fund. Sellers will be paid
(minus the percent) when the buyer’s check clears. This can be done at the
Fairgrounds until 4:30 pm on August 8 or at the Extension Office on
August 8th.
10. Sale order for 2011 is Visual Arts, Rabbit Meat Pens, Poultry Market Pens,
Sheep Wethers, Meat Goat Wethers, Steers, Barrows, and Cake Classic
Cakes.
11. All animals consigned to the 4-H Sale must remain on the fairgrounds
until the sale is completed.
12. U of I Extension/Logan County will NOT make arrangements for ANY animals
to be shipped after the show. Hauling and sale arrangements may be
provided by a livestock dealer.

4-H SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST
(SIGN-UP IS AT SHOWS)
1. Showmanship classes show on day of show as first classes of the day (senior and
junior divisions) except Beef, Dairy, Sheep and Swine which will show last class of
the day. Judging by show day judge. Beef show will allow 15 minutes between this
class and show.
2. Showmanship classes are dairy cattle, beef, horses, swine, sheep, goats, rabbits &
dogs.
3. Showmanship contest is limited to Logan County 4-H members and who show in
Logan County 4-H Show that year.
4. A 4-H club member may compete in more than one specie but must have shown
that specie in the Logan County 4-H Show.
5. MEMBERS MUST SHOW THEIR OWN ANIMAL IN SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES.
6. No personalized show shirts and/or hats allowed on exhibitor during showmanship
class only.
7. Animals do not have to be fitted for showmanship.
4-H Junior Showmanship – 12 years and under as of Sept. 1, 2010
A 4-H’er winning the Junior Showmanship Contest will be eligible to compete in the
Senior Showmanship Contest the following year, regardless of age. Winners of the
Junior Showmanship Contest will be ineligible to compete in any following years, in the
Junior Showmanship Contest.
4-H Senior Showmanship – 13 years and over as of Sept. 1, 2010
Any 4-H’er winning the Senior Showmanship Contest will be ineligible to compete in
any following year in that specie.
