Award Descriptions and Selection Criteria To the nominator: Prior to writing your nomination letter(s) please review the applicable description(s) carefully. The selection committee evaluates candidates based upon their Self-Reporting Form data and on your Nomination Form. The most effective Nomination Form statements will directly address the award’s selection criteria and provide a concise description of the candidate’s achievement of each. Basic Requirements All Student Leadership and Service Awards require satisfactory academic and disciplinary standing as defined and verified by the Registrar’s Office and Judicial Affairs. Fr. Robert Graham, S.J. Alumni Award Description Considered to be the Division of Student Affairs’ highest honor, the Graham is presented to the outstanding graduation senior man and woman who have excelled in service and leadership throughout their entire undergraduate careers. The recipients have consistently and effectively translated the University’s call to be servants and leaders into their daily lives, and they best exemplify LMU’s identity, goals, and spirits. Graham awardees are selected from among the most accomplished McKay recipients. Sr. Raymunde McKay, RSHM Award for Seniors Recipients: Award Period: Members of the graduating senior class Entire undergraduate career Description Presented to graduating seniors who have excelled as leaders and servants, the recipients of this award are catalysts for change; have assumed leadership roles that have motivated their peers to challenge themselves and to challenge others; enriched the quality of campus life by building school spirit and by creating a positive and respectful community. Award for Juniors Recipients: Award Period: Members of the current junior class The current academic year Description Presented to members of the junior class who have excelled as leaders and servants. The recipients of this award have challenged themselves and others; enriched the quality of campus life by building school spirit and by creating a dynamic and respectful community; and given selflessly in an attempt to make the University and community a better place. Dr. Renée Harangue Award for Sophomores Recipients: Award Period: Members of the current sophomore class The current academic year Description Presented to members of the sophomore class who have excelled as leaders and servants. Recipients have made a successful transition to LMU and are making worthwhile connections between in-and-out-ofclass learning. This award recognizes growing excellence in fostering the University’s mission; and advocating for local and/or global justice issues; generous service to LMU and the community; inspiring and galvanizing students through a program with positive, universal impact; and collaborating with others. Sr. Peg Dolan, RSHM Award for First Year Students Recipients: Award Period: Members of the current first year class The current academic year Description Presented to first year students who have effectively established themselves as emerging campus leaders. Recipients have assumed active and challenging roles that have developed their personal leadership skills; enriched the quality of campus life; promoted school spirit, and facilitated the creation of a dynamic and respectful community. Dolan Award recipients show great promise for a successful and consistent leadership career at LMU. Fr. James Loughran, S.J. Award for Community Service Recipients: Award Period: One graduating senior, male or female Entire undergraduate career Description Presented to the outstanding graduating senior who, through consistent and sustained leadership and involvement with the community beyond the campus, has brought credit to the University’s reputation. The recipient exemplifies Ignatian and Marian ideals of hard work and generosity; has had a significant impact in off-campus service; and has displayed exceptional promise of selfless and effective leadership in the years ahead. Fr. Donald Merrifield, S.J. Intercultural Leadership Award Recipients: Award Period: One graduating senior, male or female Entire undergraduate career Description Presented to a graduating senior who serves as an agent of change committed to the Loyola Marymount legacy of cultural consciousness and progressive social action. The recipient engages in both philosophical and practical educational opportunities, which promote greater appreciation and understanding among all cultures.
