CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
CLASS ORGANIZATION- Class officers for the coming school year are

treasurer. Each class also elects two representatives to the Student Council.
These officers, together with faculty sponsors, are responsible for class
activities.
Class meetings will be held when the class president and
sponsor feel that one should be called. Advance notice of at least
one day should be given. School class sponsors will maintain
responsibility for only those class activities and fund raisers that
are sanctioned by the administration and board of education.

STUDENT COUNCIL- Student Council is made up of student body officers,
class representatives, and representatives from recognized school organization.
Elections are held in the spring for the following year.

and art classes at Lamar High School and to encourage art students to develop
their individual art talents. Membership is made up of those who wish to pursue
their interests further than in regular class or of those who for reason are unable
to enroll in the regular course but have a desire to participate in artistic
endeavors.
BAND -JAZZ BAND – The Lamar High School Band functions as both a
marching and a concert organization. The band performs for all home football
games, various parades in Lamar and surrounding areas and concerts and
assemblies throughout the year. Included in the band are several smaller
ensembles.
The High School Jazz Band is devoted to the study of jazz and
performs at home basketball games, jazz contests and other
programs throughout the year.
7
CHOIR-SHOW CHOIR- The high school mixed chorus is a
performing vocal group usually comprised of both boys and girls
who study singing various types of music using from three to
eight harmonic parts. They perform for assemblies, concerts and
contests. Small ensembles of selected voices also sing for various
civic organizations and at contests.
The show choir (Surround Sound) is a performing vocal group
comprised of both boys and girls who study contemporary
arrangements, sometimes with choreography. They perform for
assemblies, concerts, contests, and various civic clubs and
organizations.
DECA- An Association of Marketing Students. This is a national organization
with state and local chapters. To be a member of DECA you must be enrolled
in a marketing education class. This organization is a co-curricular component
of the marketing education program. DECA activities provide students with
opportunities to develop or improve abilities in leadership, scholarship,
citizenship, cooperation, and self-confidence by participating in civic, social,
professional, and recreational activities. DECA activities include leadership
conferences, district, state, and national competitions, community service
projects, and opportunities to visit individuals from business and industry.

Members and their sponsor are responsible for on-stage and off-stage
productions representing Lamar High School in the school, community, and at
contests.

national organization for students enrolled in a business course or
courses and have an interest in the field of business. Students plan
8
activities based upon the twelve purposes of FBLA and
participate in regional, district, and state contests
FCA –Fellowship of Christian Athletes: This organization meets weekly and
is involved in several activities. During meetings, students lead devotions, sing
songs and perform dramas. Student’s participation is not limited to athletes.

nonprofit national vocational student organization for young men and women
in family and consumer sciences education in public school through grade 12.
Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including teen
pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure,
environment, nutrition and fitness, teen violence and career exploration.

leadership potential and develop skills for life – planning, goal setting, problem
solving, decision-making and interpersonal communication-necessary in the
home and workplace.

cumulative grade point average are eligible for membership in
NHS. The four qualities of scholarship, leadership, character and
service are requirements for membership. The group demonstrates
these qualities through service projects.
SADD-Students against Destructive Decisions: Originally, the
mission of SADD chapter was to help young people say “No” to
drinking and driving. Today, the mission has expanded. Students
have told us that positive peer pressure, role models and other
strategies can help them say “No” to more than drinking and
driving. And that is why SADD has become a peer leadership
organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions,
particularly underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving,
teen violence and teen violence and teen depression and suicide.
SADD’s mission simply stated is: To provide students with the
best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the
issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving and
other destructive decisions.

As you can see, this becomes
