Works on cross-cutting research projects including i) a Zurich-funded flood resilience project in which I contribute to the development of a systems-based model of the drivers of community flood vulnerability and resilience. I also review key literature on macroeconomic assessment of disaster risk and resilience; ii) an EUfunded Enhance project in which I assist in hydroeconomic modeling of water pricing policy; and iii) a World Bank funded catastrophic risk assessment project in Cambodia in which I work closely with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center in developing macroeconomic assessment models of catastrophic flood risk. PHD NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT FELLOW AUGUST 2009 – JULY 2013 East-West Center, Honolulu, HI USA - Research Assistant, University of Hawaii - Hawaii, USA (July 2012 –July 2013) Worked on collaborative research on the topics renewable fuel development, in particular geospatial modeling (GIS), computable general-equilibrium (CGE) modeling using GAS/MPSGE framework, and lifecycle analysis for alternative fuels for a USDA funded jet-fuel development project. Developed decision-support models including (i) an integrated GIS and mixed integer programming model for optimal supply chain designs and (ii) a net energy and life-cycle assessment tool using techno-economic modeling and the Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Transportation Model (GREET) modeling results and iii) energy and agriculture focused multi-sector CGE model. - Project Assistant, East-West Center - Hawaii, USA (August 2011 – July 2013) Acted as a project assistant for the organization’s capacity building project on climate change adaptation in Asian mega-cities, assisting in proposal writing. Monitors, evaluates, and conducts needs assessments identifying barriers and efforts made toward urban climate change adaptation, identifying knowledge gaps, capacities, and expansion/replication mechanisms for further research and capacity building program development. - Co-Investigator, START/NSF (Funding Organization) - Thailand/USA (July 2012 – Jan 2013) Co-investigator of a policy research examination using a community-based geographical information system (GIS) mapping approach to identify climate change/natural disaster vulnerability, and adaptive capacity assessment measures in North-Eastern Thailand Conducted field surveys to analyze policies on forest resource management for environmentally dependent communities in Thailand. CLIMATE STRATEGIES SUMMER 2010 AND 2011 Research Assistant - Cambridge, UK Acted as a research assistant to an international team for the production of a book entitled Planetary Economics: Three Domains of Sustainable Energy Development, which serves as a policy evaluation of energy and climate change policy. Analyzed information standards including energy efficiency labeling and financial-based tools adopted for energy efficiency promotion over the past decades and examined the empirical evidence of rebound effects. ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK (ADB) JUNE – AUGUST 2010 INTERN, OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL, EAST ASIAN DEPARTMENT - MANILA, PHILIPPINES Assisted in an East Asia regional study entitled Economics of Climate Change and Low-Carbon Growth Strategies in North East Asia aimed at quantifying the economic cost of climate change in the region (China, South Korea, Japan, and Mongolia) and developing a technical tool to assist policy-makers to measure the cost of varying environmental policies. Helped organizing and implementing a regional workshop featuring 30 top government officials, policy-makers, and subject matter experts and resulting in collaborative identification of useful software in determining climate change policy protocols.
