Sir William Ramsay School Job Description for: Post: Assistant Headteacher (SEN and Inclusion Leader) Permanent/fixed term: Permanent Fulltime equivalent: Full Time Salary scale: Leadership Spine Responsible to: Headteacher The post holder responsibilities: General To lead and manage all aspects of inclusion in the school To be part of the senior leadership of the school Remaining up-to-date on all developments in the teaching of students with learning difficulties and behaviour issues; providing expert advice within the school on policies, strategies and improvements. Teaching a timetable as agreed, either of students withdrawn from classes, lower ability sets in certain subjects or as part of the in-class support team. Plan department improvement and allocating appropriate resources to ensure this is effective To represent the school at meetings To take part in, or lead, In-Service Training where appropriate. Develop and implement policies and practices which reflect the school’s commitment to raising standards Assist in the recruitment of staff and develop teams and individuals to enhance performance Monitoring and controlling the use of resources within the department To line manage; Lead Learning Support Assistant, Head of Inclusion, Matron, Teacher of the Deaf To be one of the designated child protection officers. To liaise with external agencies and organisations when necessary. SEN To co-ordinate all aspects of special educational needs (SENCo) To develop and monitor a staged assessment and monitoring system, in line with the requirements of the Code of Practice. To co-ordinate, monitor and evaluate IEPs and provision maps for SEN students To provide guidance and advice on SEN good practice to teaching staff To be responsible for the development and management of the educational programme for students who hold statements of special educational needs or who appear on the SEN Register following the requirements of the Code of Practice. To manage the compilation and maintenance of the SEN Register. To identify and publish a list of SEN students receiving support and staffing allocation to these students. To co-ordinate the compilation of all assessments required by the LEA for those in the process of formal assessment. To allocate LSA support as identified and required for SEN students. Ensuring that parents of students on the SEN register are kept fully informed about the student’s progress and needs and that good liaison with the family is being maintained in conjunction with school staff involved with the students. Pastoral To encourage positive behaviour through the school rewards systems and set high expectations for all students To develop behaviour management strategies and assist staff and students Oversee student attendance and liaise with Educational Welfare regarding targeted students and families Use school data to target students or groups of students to help raise attainment and/or improve behaviour To monitor Sims behaviour tracking system and analyse trends for individual students or groups of students. To provide a link between school and parents, liaising with parents and other agencies regarding school issues affecting the students’ progress in school. Oversee the reintegration of students after exclusion from school To support Heads of Department with behaviour management within their departments through lesson observation, consultation and advice. Develop and co-ordinate a range of intervention strategies that effectively support identified students to raise achievement To support students when necessary, in consultation with the Pastoral Managers. This will include working closely with students who have been excluded from school or placed in the Zone or Student Support. To oversee the management of the Zone (internal exclusion) and Student Support facility To fulfil any other tasks which the Headteacher/Line Manager may reasonably request.
