The code is available for downloading from http://www.nzuag.org.nz/national-code/implementation-code.html. 3 Assessment against this unit standard must take place in a workplace environment. Assessment parameters will be dependent on company and site specific equipment, procedures, and practices. Practices must reflect industry best practice and comply with legislative requirements. 4 Definitions Company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the company. They include legislative and regulatory requirements which may apply across the company or to a specific site. Requirements are documented in the company’s health and safety plans, traffic management plans, contract work programmes, quality assurance programmes, policies, and procedural documents. Job instructions are those given to the operator prior to undertaking a job. They may include site safety instructions, contract drawings, and written memos. Stand over refers to work on gas, telecommunications and power services that should be carried out under supervision of the relevant service provider. Evidence requirements 1.1 Job instructions are confirmed with supervisor in accordance with company requirements. Range 1.2 location, type of work, extent of work, timing of work, equipment, materials, services identification, stand over permit, safety. Hand tools and equipment are selected for specified task and checked for serviceability. Range three of – shovel, pick, crowbar, spade, grubber. Outcome 2 Carry out manual excavation operations. Evidence requirements 2.1 Excavation is carried out in accordance with company requirements and job instructions. 2.2 Handheld digging tools are used in accordance with the Code of Practice for Manual Handling. 2.3 Excavation is cleared of loose material in accordance with company requirements. 2.4 Excavation tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained, and stored in accordance with company requirements.
