Assembly Budget Chair
California State Assembly
State Capitol, Room 6026

RE: Support for CAC and MultiCultural Arts Programs
Dear Assembly Member Oropeza:
As a member of the Asian Pacific American community in California, I urge you to sustain
2002-03 level funding into the next year for the California Arts Council (CAC), and
particularly commit funds for MultiCultural Arts Programs. I recognize that everyone must
share in the cuts during these difficult times, but the CAC has already lost more than 75% of its
funding from only two years ago. Please do not allow any further cuts to the CAC. Their
support has contributed significantly to the growth and development of arts in traditionally
underserved, multicultural communities including the Asian American and Pacific Islander
communities.
The Asian Pacific American (APA) arts community reaches millions of Californians each year
through performances, exhibits, schools, film, public television and radio. We contribute to
California’s economy, cultural diversity and social wellness. APA arts organizations also
provide educational and cultural nourishment for youth and adults throughout the state of
California. And government funding for cultural arts translates directly into support for the
survival and well-being of our multicultural communities.
Thank you for your support of a better future for the diverse population of California through the
Arts.
Sincerely,
