In the story, a bulletin board fell on him as he slept, and he became 1/2" thick! He wanted to go on a trip, so his family folded him up and mailed him in an envelope to California. We are very eager to start the project to see what happens to all of Stanley’s friends when they travel around the United States. With your help, I know that each student will be successful in this project. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions about the project. Thank you, Ms. Grieco The following is a list of things that you can help your child with: 1. Together, think of a friend or relative that lives in the United States (preferably in another region). 2. Locate that person’s address. 3. Address the envelope with your child. 4. Place the following three sheets into the envelope: a. Letter to friend or relative addressed and signed by your child b. Flat Stanley Project Instructions c. Flat _________________ 5. Place the correct postage on the envelope and mail it by Friday, December 21, 2012. 6. Anxiously wait for Flat __________ To return. December 13, 2012 Dear ______________________________, Our class is learning all about the US Regions, and is involved in a very fun and exciting Geography project based on the book "Flat Stanley" written by Jeff Brown. In the story, a bulletin board fell on him as he slept, and he became 1/2" thick! He wanted to go on a trip, so his family folded him up and mailed him in an envelope to California. In this project, the students make flat paper versions of themselves and mail them to friends and relatives. You have been chosen to be a very special part of our project. We hope that you will treat Flat _________________ like a guest. Take him/her with you when you can and describe some of his/her adventures on the attached journal page, and if you would like, make him/her some new clothes. Perhaps, Flat _________________ can be returned wearing clothing to match the climate of the place he/she visited. Please indicate the state you live in at the top of the journal page. You may keep Flat _________________ from 2-7 days. Our class is anxious to learn about the area where you live, and how you have fun. In addition, he/she can be returned to our school with pictures, postcards, maps, and anything else you can think of. Be creative! The Flat _________________ will be on display at school for us all to enjoy. Please return Flat _________________ to me before January 25, 2013. You can send him/her back to me or my teacher. His address is at the bottom of the page. Thank you for helping me with this very important Third Grade Project by hosting Flat_________________ for a week and letting us learn about your city/town & state. Our goal is to learn about many different places before the end of our school year. I wish I could fold my real self up and visit you! Sincerely, ______________________ Eleanor Van Gelder School Attn: Ms. Grieco (3rd Grade) 251 Undercliff Avenue Edgewater, NJ 07020 Dear ____________________, Sincerely, ___________________________
