Mystery Book Report in a Bag To complete this unusual and very “mysterious” book report, follow these simple steps! Due Date: Monday, November 5th Book Requirements: 1. Chosen book must be approved by your teacher. 2. Book must be grade level appropriate. 3. Book can be chosen from classroom, school or public library, or brought from home. 4. Your book choice cannot be one you’re read before. While reading: 1. As you read, pick 3 character traits the main character possesses. Write down a quote (and page number) that demonstrates each trait. 2. Write down what problem needs to be solved. 3. Collect three small objects or pictures (hand-drawn or cut-out) that have meaning in the story. Pictures must be neatly mounted on an index card or cardboard. 4. On an index card, write down the tone and the mood of your story to be used later. When you finish your mystery: 1. Get a plain unused white or brown lunch bag. 2. Decorate your plain unused white or brown lunch bag with an important event or scene from your story. Use color! Make this exciting, eye-catching, and clever! 3. Write the title and author of the book on the front of the bag. 4. Write your first and last name on the bottom of the front of the bag. 5. In one side fold, so it can be seen when the bag is open, describe the setting. Include the mood and tone of the book as part of the setting description. 6. In the other side fold, describe the main character. Include the character traits and quotes you wrote down while reading. 7. On the back of each picture you have cut out or drawn, write how it relates to the story using complete sentences. For any objects you use, make a small tag for the same purpose and attach it to the object. 8. Finally, neatly write a short summary of the book on a stiff piece of paper or index card. Include the problem that must be solved in this mystery. Place this in the bag. And finally: 1. Prepare to present your project. You must tell the title and author of the book, explain why you decorated your bag the way you did, and briefly tell what your book is about. 2. You will be pulling your items from your bag and explaining how they relate to the story. Practice what you will say because YOU CANNOT READ YOUR SUMMARY OR TAGS! 3. Remember to practice your presentation using eye contact, good posture, proper voice volume and correct word pronunciation. 4. Have fun!!
