Technical Committee and Nanyang Polytechnic)
(registration starts at 1.00pm)
School of Engineering (Electronics)
The alternative energy industry focuses on energy harvesting technologies such as those based on solar and wind energy. The efficient use of these alternative energy resources is important for both financial and environmental reasons. In this course, we bring together a selection of photovoltaic alternative energy technologies that are reshaping the industry landscape. You will find out about emerging trends, get a quick overview of the technologies and systems, and learn how engineers can leverage them to provide better engineering and business solutions.
SYNOPSIS
Photovoltaic (PV) alternative energy systems for infrastructure projects are used to offset utility’s electricity charges and to supply power to the
Topics
Introduction
PV technologies, grid-tied, hybrid & stand-alone PV systems’ architecture
PV systems’ performance monitoring grid efficiently in line with emergent trends in devices, environment data & generated alternative energy sector. energy data storage
Weather data from sources such as
The presentation will cover various PV systems system architecture, performance monitoring of the PV arrays, environment data and generated energy data storage. Application examples will be used to explain the technologies. The presentation will also introduce solar geometry and sun path and the impact of the same for a given built environment.
EnergyPlus, Ecotect Square One
Introductory visualisation and analysis of hourly climate data using weather modelling tools
Introduction to sun path diagrams (i.e. solar azimuth and altitude for any time of the day & day of the year) using solar modelling tools
Case Study
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Engineers who want to leverage alternative energy technologies to enhance their professional capabilities and who need to deploy alternative energy system for smart and green building.
