Begin your tour with a visit to the “White Dove of the Desert,” San Xavier del Bac. Built by
the Jesuits from 1783 to 1797, San Xavier was established by the “Padre on Horseback,”
Father Kino. San Xavier is acclaimed as the finest example of mission architecture in the
country. After your visit you will stop for lunch at Garden Restaurant, one of the areas
quaint restaurants located in the center of Old Town Artisans. This unique marketplace is
located in the El Presidio Historic District. Housed within an 1850’s restored adobe building
are distinctive shops featuring contemporary and traditional works of hundreds of artists and
craftsmen, including Native American tribal art and imports from Latin American cultures.
