Revolution Winning Streak Now at 5! After a two week break, the Revolution EJ squad got back into action on Friday night vs. the NY Applecore. It was a huge tilt, as two much needed league points were up for grabs, with NY being only four points ahead of the Revolution in the Southern Division. Andrew Bettencourt started the scoring off for the Revolution at 6:35 of the first half. He followed up on a Kenny Simon shot and buried the rebound to put the Revs up 1-0. NY scored to tie it up at 13:09. That would be the end of the scoring for either team in the first half. Logan Romano gave the Revs a 2-0 lead just twenty five seconds into the second half. Kenny Simon caused a turnover in the defensive zone then made a beautiful pass to Romano who went in all alone and beat the Applecore goalie five hole. No goal scoring would occur until the 17:06 mark when Kenny Simon, after receiving a Logan Romano pass, fed it to Pat Thompson in front of the net. Thompson used his quick release to beat the Applecore goaltender. The goal was a power play tally and put the Revs up 3-1. Andrew Bettencourt added an empty net goal at 23:50, putting the game out of reach for the Long Islanders. Applecore put a lot of pressure on Jamie Regan, but Regan shut the door not allowing any goals in the second half! On Saturday night The Philadelphia Revolution EJ team faced off against the Philadelphia Little Flyers AJ team at the EJHL Winter Showcase in Marlboro, MA. The Revolution came out on top with a 7-3 victory. Andrew Bettencourt started off the Revolution scoring just 15 seconds into the game with a nice breakaway goal. The Little Flyers bounced back just 32 seconds later knotting it up at 1-1. No scoring would occur for the next 15 minutes as both goaltenders for each team played outstanding. Clemente Cruz made a nice pass to Will Rayner, who fired a shot from the point. Brandon Moore tipped the shot to beat the Flyers’ goaltender, and make the score 2-1 in the Revolution’s favor. Scott Witmyer increased the Revolution lead to 2 just 51 seconds into the second half. Will Rayner had the only assist on the play. Logan Romano then buried one in front to make it 4-1 Revolution. Kenny Simon and Andrew Bettencourt picked up assists on the play. The Little Flyers bounced back with two quick goals, cutting the Revolution lead to 1. Kenny Simon received an Anthony Calabrese pass in his own zone, skated the puck up to the Flyers’ blue line, where he dangled the Flyers defenseman and then fed it to Pat Thompson, who buried the puck to make it 5-3 Revolution. Tyler Schmarr added another for the Revs as he received a beautiful pass from Ian Barnes at the blue line. Schmarr ripped the puck, beating the goalie to the left side. John Marsters added an empty net goal, putting the game out of reach for the Flyers. Side Note: Mitchell Maraschiello earned his second win in a row in net for the Philadelphia Revolution. The Revolution extended their winning streak to 5 with a 7-2 victory over the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL). Logan Romano extended his goal scoring streak to three with a goal just 17 seconds into the game. Andrew Bettencourt made a beautiful pass to Romano who was waiting back door. Romano received the pass, and roofed it making it 1-0 Revolution. Will Rayner then ripped a slapshot from the top of the circle to make it 2-0. Logan Romano got his second goal of the game just a minute after Rayner’s. Clemente Cruz increased the lead to 4 just two minutes later. Chris Gacsy received a pass from Vince Pettrone and beat the goalie to make it 5-0 Revolution. That is how the half would end. The thunderbirds came out much harder in the second half. They converted two power play goals, cutting the lead to 3. Scott Witmyer squeaked one by at 20:03 of the period to make it 6-2 Revolution. Clemente Cruz then added a powerplay tally, ripping a show from the top of the circle to make it 7-2 Revolution. That is how the game would end. Side Notes: Mitchell Maraschiello earned his third win in a row in goal for Philadelphia. That is Philadelphia’s 5th win in a row.
