Revolution Winning Streak Now at 5!
After a two week break, the Revolution EJ squad got
back into action on Friday night vs. the NY Applecore. It was a
huge tilt, as two much needed league points were up for grabs,
with NY being only four points ahead of the Revolution in the
Southern Division.
Andrew Bettencourt started the scoring off for the
Revolution at 6:35 of the first half. He followed up on a Kenny
Simon shot and buried the rebound to put the Revs up 1-0. NY
scored to tie it up at 13:09. That would be the end of the scoring
for either team in the first half.
Logan Romano gave the Revs a 2-0 lead just twenty
five seconds into the second half. Kenny Simon caused a turnover
in the defensive zone then made a beautiful pass to Romano who
went in all alone and beat the Applecore goalie five hole. No goal
scoring would occur until the 17:06 mark when Kenny Simon,
after receiving a Logan Romano pass, fed it to Pat Thompson in
front of the net. Thompson used his quick release to beat the
Applecore goaltender. The goal was a power play tally and put the
Revs up 3-1. Andrew Bettencourt added an empty net goal at
23:50, putting the game out of reach for the Long Islanders.
Applecore put a lot of pressure on Jamie Regan, but Regan shut
the door not allowing any goals in the second half!
On Saturday night The Philadelphia Revolution EJ team
faced off against the Philadelphia Little Flyers AJ team at the
EJHL Winter Showcase in Marlboro, MA. The Revolution came
out on top with a 7-3 victory.
Andrew Bettencourt started off the Revolution scoring just
15 seconds into the game with a nice breakaway goal. The Little
Flyers bounced back just 32 seconds later knotting it up at 1-1. No
scoring would occur for the next 15 minutes as both goaltenders
for each team played outstanding. Clemente Cruz made a nice
pass to Will Rayner, who fired a shot from the point. Brandon
Moore tipped the shot to beat the Flyers’ goaltender, and make the
score 2-1 in the Revolution’s favor.
Scott Witmyer increased the Revolution lead to 2 just 51
seconds into the second half. Will Rayner had the only assist on
the play. Logan Romano then buried one in front to make it 4-1
Revolution. Kenny Simon and Andrew Bettencourt picked up
assists on the play. The Little Flyers bounced back with two quick
goals, cutting the Revolution lead to 1. Kenny Simon received an
Anthony Calabrese pass in his own zone, skated the puck up to
the Flyers’ blue line, where he dangled the Flyers defenseman and
then fed it to Pat Thompson, who buried the puck to make it 5-3
Revolution. Tyler Schmarr added another for the Revs as he
received a beautiful pass from Ian Barnes at the blue line.
Schmarr ripped the puck, beating the goalie to the left side. John
Marsters added an empty net goal, putting the game out of reach
for the Flyers.
Side Note: Mitchell Maraschiello earned his second win in a
row in net for the Philadelphia Revolution.
The Revolution extended their winning streak to 5 with a 7-2
victory over the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior
Hockey League (NOJHL).
Logan Romano extended his goal scoring streak to
three with a goal just 17 seconds into the game. Andrew
Bettencourt made a beautiful pass to Romano who was waiting
back door. Romano received the pass, and roofed it making it 1-0
Revolution. Will Rayner then ripped a slapshot from the top of the
circle to make it 2-0. Logan Romano got his second goal of the
game just a minute after Rayner’s. Clemente Cruz increased the
lead to 4 just two minutes later. Chris Gacsy received a pass from
Vince Pettrone and beat the goalie to make it 5-0 Revolution. That
is how the half would end.
The thunderbirds came out much harder in the second half.
They converted two power play goals, cutting the lead to 3. Scott
Witmyer squeaked one by at 20:03 of the period to make it 6-2
Revolution. Clemente Cruz then added a powerplay tally, ripping
a show from the top of the circle to make it 7-2 Revolution. That is
how the game would end.
Side Notes: Mitchell Maraschiello earned his third win in a
row in goal for Philadelphia.
