Guidelines for Publicity Texts These guidelines are meant to help you write your publicity text. This text is very important as often the decision to purchase your book is based on this. General Guideline: What is the book about? Which academic approach is used in the book? If a book is in more than one language (e.g. a collection of essays) then please provide the publicity texts in both languages. Synopsis Write one or two introductory sentences about the subject and its relevance. Include a short objective description of the book’s content, objectives, and methodology (if applicable). The style should be clear and accessible. Do not repeat the book title or your name; use instead ‘this book,’ or ‘the author’. For collections of essays, do not summarise any contributions; these are covered in a separate section. Avoid generally known facts, such as ‘Plato, one of the greatest ancient Greek philosophers…’ Avoid stating the conclusions of your research. This is not an abstract. Generally it is best to inspire curiosity about the book, and not to satisfy it. Do not define your target audience. Avoid quotations. Biographical Sketch For doctoral theses you need to include the subjects studied and universities you studied at. For more established scholars, you need to include your affiliation, institution, and details of your academic career. You do not need to include books you have published elsewhere.
