Britain in Bloom judges set to arrive
Coupar Angus Pride of Place complete final preparations before
judging
Two independent judges appointed by the Royal Horticultural Society are set to visit
Coupar Angus and assess their entry into this year’s prestigious Britain in Bloom
competition. The group is one of seven who qualified for this year’s competition
through their success in the 2012 Beautiful Scotland awards, run by the independent
charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.
The imminent judging is the culmination of many months of hard work, as the group
members aim to come out on top in the esteemed UK wide competition. The judges
are set to arrive on 2nd August and there is a keen sense of anticipation before their
visit, as Britain in Bloom is one of Europe’s premier horticultural award schemes.
The judges will be assessing their entry on three established criteria:

horticultural achievement

environmental responsibility

community participation
All the entries into this year’s Britain in Bloom competition will be invited to hear the
winners announced at a national awards ceremony – this time being held on 12th
October in Cleethorpes.
Rona McKinnon, Chair of the Pride of Place Group, said:
”Being one of the seven Scottish representatives in the 2013 RHS Britain in Bloom
Competition is an amazing accolade and opportunity for our community. The Pride
of Place Group has come a long way since its formation in 2006, with the results of a
recent community survey confirming that we are ‘making a difference’ to our town.
“The Group readily acknowledges that this could not have been achieved without the
outstanding support the Group receives from the wider community, in various guises,

each year.
The fantastic support we have enjoyed this year means that our
preparations are on schedule for the visit to Coupar Angus of the Britain in Bloom
judges on 2nd August.”
Carole Noble, Head of Environmental Services at Keep Scotland Beautiful said:
“Everyone at Keep Scotland Beautiful wishes all our Scottish entries the best of luck
in this year’s Britain in Bloom competition. These awards are the pinnacle of
achievement for communities across the UK looking to demonstrate the difference
that their effort, imagination and hard work can make to local environments.
“After their success in the Beautiful Scotland awards in 2012, we wish Coupar Angus
Pride of Place well as they await their assessment from the judges. We know they’ll
do well.”
