The Ontario College of Family Physicians Collaborative Mental Health Network Regional Conference Mentoring in Mental Health A Practical Approach to Managing Uncertainty in Mental Disorders in Primary Care The Ontario College of Family Physicians is offering physicians in the Algoma region, membership in a province-wide mentorship program in Mental Health. Building on a proven model, we will provide ready access to mentors and practical support. Your patient, Janet Simmons has been struggling at work, partying and taking too many of the lorazepam you gave her for her intermittent anxiety. She’s a single mother with a four year old and works the night shift at a local factory. What do you need to do now? What do you need to do soon? What do you need to consider over time? Patients with mental health and addictions problems are complex, arousing anxiety in the treating clinician. Treatment is often not a simple matter of making a diagnosis and implementing management, although we wish it were. This conference will provide you with a practical approach to undifferentiated mental disorders when the diagnosis is unclear. You will practice applying a method of dealing with risks, functional impairments and symptoms of distress in these patients. This day is suitable for any clinician who ever struggles in the management of those with mental health and addictions problems.
