Aidan O’Brien was at the European quarantine barn at Keeneland this morning to see his

$5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic hope Gleneagles along with his other challengers from

Ballydoyle.

The Irish horses, which also include the David Wachman-trained Legatissimo (Filly &

Mare Turf) are expected to clear quarantine at around 4 p.m. this afternoon, and to be seen on the track for the first time on Thursday morning.

English Derby and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner

Golden Horn, who runs in the $3 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf, was the first European horse onto the training track this morning. With Frankie Dettori in the saddle, Golden Horn was accompanied by his stable companion Cymric (Juvenile Turf), who was ridden by regular work rider Gary Foster .

They both had a gentle walk of the training track before breaking into a gentle canter and going two circuits of the track. Golden Horn’s trainer John Gosden is flying in from England today, and is expected at trackside in the morning.

Europe are strongly represented in the $2 million Filly & Mare Turf and four out of the five challengers stretched their legs this morning with only Legatissimo remaining in the quarantine barn still awaiting clearance.

The Andre Fabre-trained Miss France walked for half a circuit of the training track before turning and doing an easy canter for a circuit and a half. Another French trainer, Freddy

Head, who flew into Kentucky yesterday, was on hand to see his filly

Queen’s Jewel

do a much steadier piece of work. The daughter of Pivotal did two laps of the track before returning home to the barn.

Afterwards Head stood outside the quarantine barn, ignoring the falling rain and spoke to various members of the media gathered there. “I think the filly is very well, and I am hoping that soft ground here will not be a problem for her. I don’t think that it will be, as she has handled soft ground in the past, so I am hoping for the best,” he said.

The Carlos Laffon Parias-trained Bawina followed a similar pattern to yesterday by heading out on to the sloppy main track. No serious exercise was undertaken and the 4yo daughter of Dubawi trotted and cantered a couple of circuits of the track.

Secret Gesture , who was first past the post in this year’s Beverly D Stakes at Arlington, but subsequently taken down by the Stewards, went out on to the training track with trainer

Ralph Beckett leading on a pony. They walked for a circuit before Beckett allowed Secret

Gesture to do a steady canter on her own.

Beckett is one European trainer not fazed by the prevailing wet conditions. “After the run in the Beverly D, the plan was to come here, although we considered bringing her back over for the Flower Bowl and also the E P Taylor, but that might have been too soon in terms of having her fresh,” he said.

“She’s an athletic, good moving filly, and she handles good ground, but the form book says she handles soft ground too. I thought she looked well this morning, she likes to travel, she’s as fresh as paint, and as hard as nails. I don’t know for sure if this is her last race, but she has been great for the stable, and it has been great to have the opportunity to train her.”

On the booking of Florent Geroux to take the ride in Saturday’s $2 million Filly and

Mare Turf, Beckett said,” All the owners were happy for him to take the ride. She’s not a complicated filly, and he’s riding very well and knows this track.”

All the European $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile contenders were seen out exercising this morning. Impassable did exactly the same as her stable companion Bawina out on the main track whilst all the other contenders, Karakontie , Make Believe , Mondialiste and Time Test all went out onto the training track.

Last year’s Mile winner

Karakontie appeared in great shape as he stepped up from yesterday’s gentle exercise and did a much stronger canter than yesterday around three circuits of the training track.

Make Believe and Time Test followed a similar pattern to yesterday with a steady canter of a couple of circuits of the track.

Mondialiste

, who will be trainer David O’Meara’s first ever Breeders’ Cup runner did a slightly stronger canter than yesterday and appeared to be enjoying himself in his Keeneland surroundings.

Birchwood (Juvenile Turf), who will also be Richard Fahey’s first ever Breeders’ Cup runner, was reported to be in great shape by Alyson Deniel after she cantered a couple of circuits of the training track. Deniel who is overseeing operations until Fahey arrives on Friday said: “He is in really good form and everything is fine”

Jeremy Noseda was seen at trackside for the first time this morning to watch Nemoralia

(Juvenile Fillies Turf) do some exercise on the training track. The daughter of More Than Ready, who finished 2 nd

on her latest start in the Frizette Stakes, stretched her legs with a gentle canter of a couple of circuits of the training track.

Illuminate (Juvenile Fillies Turf) with Frankie Dettori in the saddle had a very good look around Keeneland this morning. The daughter of Zoffany was put through the starting gates up on the main track before being the first European to go out on to the turf.

She did a circuit of the turf at a steady canter before coming back and having a look at the paddock before returning home.

When asked about the state of the turf, Dettori said “It is soft for most of the track but the last furlong is very deep. It needs to stop raining.”
