The foursome returned to the sloppy main track on Wednesday. “They all came out of their breezes really well,” Riley Mott said. “Obviously the track was not in great shape today so they just had a nice easy gallop one time around. It was a pretty quiet morning. All the serious track work is done. It is just a matter of keeping the horses happy and healthy and getting them to the race.” Mott said Thursday’s training timetable is contingent on the weather. “Everything is pending with the weather,” he said. “We’ll see what the radar is looking like.” Illuminate – See European Report Manhattan Dan – From a pace standpoint, one can expect to see Manhattan Dan on the lead according to trainer Gary Contessa. “This horse is a legitimate horse and he’s the fastest one in the race,” Contessa said. “He sets the table for this race. Undoubtedly he is the fastest and he will be on the lead. There are 13 other trainers that are going to say, ‘Well, am I going to kill myself and chase Manhattan Dan, or am I going to let him go?’” Contessa could not be any more satisfied with how the 2yo son of Big Brown has been handling the Keeneland turf. “He couldn’t be training better,” he said. “He had a great work on the turf here on Monday, I told Robby (Albarado) to just sit on him and he sat on him. He worked a bullet. He couldn’t be coming in any better.” Two starts ago, Manhattan Dan ran third in the Summer Stakes at Woodbine, setting some swift opening fractions up front, a race that impressed the horse’s trainer. “Keep in mind that it rained for three days leading up to that race at Woodbine so it was a soft turf, and he went the first quarter in 22 and 2,” Contessa said. “If you look at the other stakes race that day, the Natalma, the winner of that race (Catch a Glimpse) went the first quarter in 24 and 4, so we went 22 and 2 and still ran third. We need a little bit of a break. If we can get the first quarter out of him, it’s going to be a horse race from there on out. He’ll get the distance; we just got to slow it down a little bit. So it’s come and get me.” Mirage – See European Report Shogun – See European Report ####
