ANNOUNCEMENT McLean Hospital is pleased to announce the availability of THE PHYLLIS AND JEROME LYLE RAPPAPORT MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH SCHOLARS AWARD This annual award, established by the Phyllis and Jerome Lyle Rappaport Charitable Foundation, is expected to be announced in May 2014. Funding is for a one-year period starting on July 1, 2014. The funds may be used to support the recipient’s research toward finding the cause or cure for schizophrenia or other mental disorders, or Alzheimer’s or other neurodegenerative diseases, improvement in the delivery of psychiatric treatments, therapy or family counseling, or basic research in the fields of neurology, neurobiology or psychiatry. Two separate awards will be given at $35,000 each. The awards are designed to support a stand-alone proposal or a meaningful component of a larger project. Young investigators within seven years of receipt of their terminal degree as of July 1, 2014, are eligible to apply. The awardees will be selected in consultation with a special advisory committee convened for this purpose. Support can be requested for principal researcher and staff salary + fringe benefits (32% of salary), supplies, equipment or subject recruitment fees. It is expected that the budget will include the awardee’s salary in an amount equivalent to time spent on the project. Please note that the award carries a 15% indirect cost rate based on modified total direct costs. Applicants should include this calculation in preparing the budget. Awards are not transferrable to other organizations. The award is competitively renewable for a second year upon review of scientific progress. The awardees may be asked to meet with the foundation board and will be expected to present their research to the donors in a year’s time. It is further expected that the research findings will lead to a peer-reviewed publication acknowledging the Rappaport Foundation’s support. The application packet should include: (1) A Fellowship Application Face Page available on the Research Administration website: (https://research.mclean.harvard.edu/PreAward/preawardforms.php) noting that this is an application for the Rappaport Mental Health Research Scholar Award, the project title, and applicant information (including name and signature, institutional title, laboratory affiliation, location, and phone number); (2) A current curriculum vitae.
