PRESS RELEASE
“DIGITAL BRIDGES” INVITES YOU TO BUCHAREST !
CONFERENCE :
“Crossing the bridge: The emerging of a virtual civil society through new
media”
This conference, which will take place in the premises of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication
Studies of the University of Bucharest, Friday 4th March 2011, will be the opportunity to become
acquainted with our project.
Indeed, this event will enable the students taking part in the “Digital Bridges” project to strengthen their
reflection on the new forms of journalism as well as on their impact on the European and Turkish civil
societies, which is the main subject of the “Digital Bridges” project. Besides, this will give them the
opportunity to prepare themselves for an “Academic conference” which will take place 13th April in
Eskisehir, Turkey, on the “European Common Cultural Heritage”.
What is “Digital Bridges” ? The “Digital Bridges” project is funded by the European Project and is
implemented within the framework of a larger activity, the EU-Turkey “Cultural Bridges” programme. It is
led by the French Institute of Turkey – Ankara – in partnership with the University of Bucharest (Romania),
the Anadolu University in Eskisehir (Turkey) and the School of Journalism of Lille (France). This project
aims at giving an innovative dimension to the cultural dialogue between Turkey and EU, by using the new
technologies of information and communication and the new types of media. The concrete contribution of
this project to the dialogue between EU and Turkish civil society is the setting-up of a transnational
multimedia cyber platform enabling young journalists, cultural operators, artists and public opinion to
debate on culture-related themes and events while, at the same time, promoting e-journalism. Throughout
the duration of the project (until April 2011), this platform is relaying the work of multicultural teams,
made up of Romanian, Turkish and French students in journalism who cover, analyze, and produce
multimedia contents about several major cultural events (visit the website : www.digitalbridges.eu/).
Besides, the project’s second objective is to set up a Turkish-European centre for innovative journalism in
Turkey in order to facilitate and increase the exchanges between students in journalism of Europe and
Turkey.
