The Opportunity:
Thomson Unicomarine has an opportunity for an experienced Taxonomist with sound
consultancy experience to join our team of like-minded marine biologists at our laboratory in
Letchworth, Hertfordshire.

Thomson Ecology is the UK’s largest independent ecological consultancy. Thomson
Unicomarine is the marine division of Thomson Ecology and provides a range of marine
biology services to both public and private sector clients. Thomson Unicomarine is one of the
leading benthic taxonomic laboratories in the UK, and has run the benthic invertebrate
component of the NMBAQC scheme since its inception in 1994.
We employ a large team of international taxonomists, and have a reference collection of over

The Person:
For this role you should have two year’s experience of benthic taxonomy, a BSc and ideally
an MSc in marine biology, or a closely related subject as well as knowledge of QA/QC
procedures. You may specialise in one phylum, but should be sufficiently experienced to
check identifications from a variety of phyla. You should be proficient in client, project and
staff management with a flexible, can-do work attitude. It is essential that you are able to
communicate issues to clients both verbally and in writing at a high standard of fluency.
