Priorities for the week: introductory lesson prep; have a Triad Meeting; assist with semester turnaround (working with students, exam invigilation, classroom set up etc.) Faculty advisors schedule weekly visits for the next 12 weeks. Observe mentor teacher and co-teach: take responsibility for specific aspects of the class/es (e.g. warm up, lab, quiz, readings, homework, and attendance) but do not take full responsibility for a whole class. Collaborate and transition to 50% with mentor teachers and faculty advisor UBCO will coordinate ProD registration for teacher candidates… watch for the email in midJanuary Take responsibility for most of a class (or classes) including teaching the lessons, management, marking etc., but not more than 50% of a teacher’s load (4/8 or 2/4 blocks per week) Transition to taking responsibility for 75-80% of a teacher’s load (6/8 or 3/4 blocks per week) Attend designated Learning Community (details to come) Midterm assessment is drafted by faculty advisor in collaboration with the mentor teachers and teacher candidate. Midterm assessment is reviewed at the Midterm Triad Meeting (before or just after Spring Break) Discuss report card procedures and clarify teacher candidate’s role in report card development and Parent-Teacher Interviews Teacher candidates are strongly advised to use the 2-week Spring Break period as a time to ‘regroup’ and prepare for very busy 2nd half of practicum when they will be teaching 80% and preparing for term report cards at the end of April. Vacations, resuming full time employment and other significant time commitments are strongly discouraged! Week 7: Teach up to 80% Teaching at 80% and report card preparation Week 8: Teach up to 80% Learning Community (TBA) Teaching at 80% and report card preparation Attend designated Learning Community (details to come) Week 9: Teach up to 80% Week 10: Teach up to 80% Draft of the Final Evaluation begins involving collaboration and consultation with the faculty advisor and the mentor teachers with input from the teacher candidate. Normally, the final Triad Meeting is scheduled for Week 11 or 12. Begin the ‘Conclude Teaching’ phase of the practicum: This may include completion of tasks, reduction of teaching load, transition of teaching load from teacher candidate to sponsor teachers, co-teaching etc. Teacher candidates continue as co-teachers in their practicum classrooms either as lead or support teachers. All record-keeping, teaching responsibilities must be completed. Final Triad Meetings- review final evaluation, signatures, make copies of form Teacher Candidate Reflections* are a required assignment for EDUC 428/EDUC 429 and are due by Friday, May 16th.
