OBJECTIVE
A research and development position that requires my interdisciplinary experiences in chemistry,
biophysics, biochemistry and chemical engineering and my expertise in inter- and intra-molecular
interaction and molecular dynamics to help design of new materials and drugs, and my expertise
in NMR, ESR UV instrumentation.
ACCOMPLISHMENT
Crucial contributions include two new formulas which can be used to study inter- and intramolecular interaction by NMR spin lattice relaxation time and REDOR experiments., the icesurface adsorption enhanced colligative model that can be used to detect the protein
concentration on ice surface, a new process for making ice that burns in NMR tube in a week,, an
ESR method to study Arrhenius parameters of radical and their change with medium environment,
received three research grants when I was in China as an associate professor, more than 20 peer
reviewed articles and a news note that the science writer of American Chemical Society
distributed to journalists as a news.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Visiting Research Associate
November 2012 to present
Study the interactions between cation and anion in ionic liquid with NMR diffusion and conductivity
measurements
 Study the correlated motion of cation and anion and its effect on ionic liquid conductivities and
gas absorptions
 Identify the driving force of correlated motion of cation and anion to help molecular design
 Develop a method that makes the NMR diffusion measurements be used to study chemical
reaction process
California State University Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California
Research Associate
January 2003 to July 2012
Antifreeze protein, anti cancer drug delivery and gas hydrate studies
 Study the interaction between protein and ice surface and its relation to antifreeze function of
the protein
 Develop the NMR experimental and theoretical methods that can be used to study the
interaction between protein and ice surface
 Propose ice-surface adsorption enhanced colligative model to detect the protein concentration
on ice surface
 Study the interaction between drug and hydrogel by ESR method and its relation to drug
Loading capacity
 Produced gas hydrate in a sealed NMR tube in one week. Conventional technology requires
one year to produce this hydrate in NMR tube.
