RULES
Adding suffixes: If the last syllable of a word is stressed and ends with one consonant letter which has just
one vowel letter before it, the final consonant letter is doubled before any endings beginning with a vowel
letter is added. The consonant letter is not doubled if the syllable is unstressed.
Hyphen: is used to join prefix to root word, especially if prefix ends in a vowel letter & root word begins
with a vowel
Fer: The r is doubled if the –fer is still stressed when the ending is added. The r is not doubled if
the –fer is not stressed when the ending is added.
Ible/Ibly: the ible ending is common if the root word cannot be heard before it but also sometime
occurs when a whole word can be heard eg sensibly (able/ably is much more common)
