The Institut für Museumsforschung (Institute for Museum Research, Berlin) and the
European Association for Jewish Culture (London) held a joint seminar on Digital Access to
Jewish Heritage Collections in Germany to discuss the opportunities presented by two
digital projects:
Judaica Europeana www.judaica-europeana.eu
MICHAEL - the Multilingual Inventory of Cultural Heritage in Europe
www.michael-culture.de
Judaica Europeana www.judaica-europeana.eu is part of Europeana, www.europeana.eu
which will provide access to the digitized objects at museums, archives and libraries across
Europe. Judaica Europeana is a partnership of heritage institutions which will contribute
content on Jewish urban life to Europeana. The project will digitise over a million items
from its partners’ collections: books, newspapers, documents, photos, postcards and
recordings. It will also aggregate relevant Jewish content from other collections. For more
information, please contact us through our website www.judaica-europeana.eu
MICHAEL is a multilingual platform which opens up access to Europe’s cultural heritage
collections. In Germany, MICHAEL is managed by the Institute for Museum Research
www.smb.spk-berlin.de/ifm The Institute for Museum Research will facilitate the
registration of digitized Jewish content collections in the German portal of MICHAEL. For
