Munster Eye Care Associates, P.C. 761 45th Street, Suite 101 Munster, IN 46321 www.munstereyecare.com JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Optometrist DEPARTMENT: Clinic REPORTS TO: Practice Administrator and Corporate Officer JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for demonstrating proficiency and excellence in skills commensurate with the maximum allowances within the scope of licensure; maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of patient care in the practice; and optimally developing an individual optometric practice within the medical/surgical practice. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Licensed optometrist in the State of Indiana 2. Graduate of accredited optometry program with additional medical training 3. Two years of experience in an ophthalmology setting preferred ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Provider of quality patient eye care 2. Demonstrated ability to work with patients of all ages 3. Strong organization with attention to detail 4. Demonstrated computer literacy 5. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Practice Management Systems and Electronic Health Records 6. Ability to meet patient volume requirements RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Optometric Examinations a. Independent patient examinations within the scope of licensure. b. Co-management of the medical/surgical patient according to state law and the by-laws of the practice. © 2009 BSM Consulting Optometrist Page 2 c. Emergency patient examinations. d. S/P laser evaluations. e. Participation in rotating call schedule and availability for back up in complex situations. 2. Optical a. Provides vision examinations with refractions. b. Provides guidelines for the fitting and dispensing of frames and lenses to be performed by appointed clinical staff. 3. Contact Lens Department Operations and Management a. Provides contact lens examinations and fittings. b. Oversees contact lens inventory for current product use (i.e., trial lenses, retail stock, supplies and solutions). c. Provides guidelines regarding contact lens instruction (for insertion and removal) to be performed by appointed clinical staff. 4. Administrative a. Advises practice administrator of schedule changes two months in advance of conflict. b. Bills for services provided in accordance with state law. 5. Community Outreach and Practice Growth a. Schedules and performs eye health screenings in the community in cooperation with the office manager. b. Grows optometric and ophthalmology practice using various marketing tools, including face-toface appointments with primary care physicians. 6. Education a. Provides a weekly in-house continuing education for ophthalmic/optical medical personnel.
