2014-2015 Local Scholarships
All application deadlines must be met. No deadlines will be extended. All applications must be turned in to the
counselor. Because of interest rates on all certificates of deposit, the amounts of these scholarships are not
guaranteed. Some of the amounts stated are estimates.
1. Arthur and Marie Oehm Memorial Scholarship
A. Applicants must be graduates of Marysville High School.
B. Selection criteria include above average grades, personal character, citizenship, and financial need.
C. The Board of Education of Unified School District #364 will select the recipient
D. The Amount of the Scholarship is approximately $250.00.
E. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be submitted to them by April 1.
2. Barbara Ann Tangeman Nursing Scholarship
A. The applicant must be of good moral character, a resident of Marshall County, a high school graduate
and a member of a recognized Protestant Church.
B. The recipient must have financial need to the extent of being unable to pursue training to be a registered
nurse without the financial assistance this scholarship offers.
C. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be submitted by April 1.
D. The amount of the scholarship is TBD
3. Burtha Burk Memorial Scholarship
A. Applicants must be male Protestants who plan to attend Kansas State University and are graduates of
Marysville High School.
B. The amount of the scholarship is approximately $1,500.
C. Selection of the recipient is based on personal character and financial need.
D. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be turned in by April 1.
4. BlueValley Telecommunications Scholarship - (Available in January - see counselor for application)
5. Byron E. and Eulalia T. Guise Art Scholarship
A. Applicants must have completed at least six semesters of both high school art courses and plan to work
towards a college degree in some field of art at an accredited college in Kansas.
B. The MHS art instructor and two other persons with some expertise in art will select the recipient.
C. The application deadline is April 1.
6. Citizens State Bank Scholarship
A. Applicants must be this years graduates of Marysville High School.
B. Applicants must plan to attend either a two-year or four-year college or university.
C. Selection of the recipient will be based on academic achievement, involvement in the community and
extracurricular involvement at school.
D. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be turned in by April 1.
7. C.M. Sextro Memorial Scholarship
A. Applications must complete four years of high school math courses and have a 3.25 grade point average
in those courses.
B. Applicants may plan to attend a two-year or four-year College or university or a technical college.
C. Priority consideration will go to applicants who major in mathematics, engineering, sciences, business,
and other majors requiring a background in math.
D. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be turned in by April 1.

8. Dewey E. Wolgast Scholarship
A. Applicants must be graduates of Marysville High School and they must plan to attend an accredited
college or university in the State of Kansas.
B. The recipient must have a high grade point average and must be unable to attend college without
assistance.
C. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be submitted by April 1.
9. Edna McCrary Wendele Scholarship
A. Open to any female Marysville High School senior.
B. No particular major field is required.
C. It is approximately $1,000 and renewable up to four years.
D. There is no application form to fill out. Applicants will be nominated by Marysville High School
faculty members. Selection will be based on who most closely exemplifies the late Mrs. Wendele. She
had pride in her appearance. She had lots of friends both old and young. She was happy and frequently
smiled and laughed. She had strong morals and a strong character. She was not necessarily a straight
“A” student nor was she the neediest. She had lots of energy and she was willing to work for a living.
She was always willing to help someone who needed encouragement, love or understanding.
E. A committee made up of the President of United Bank and Trust, the High School Principal and the
High School Counselor will make the choice before the Awards Assembly day in May.
10. Esther and Herbert Ford Human Development Scholarship
A. One scholarship to graduating seniors.
B. The award must be used for financing post high school preparation for a trade or profession. Collegiate
level preparation is preferred but not required.
C. The student should have a history of responsible citizenship in home, school and community.
D. There should be evidence of a responsible work history at home (e.g. on the family farm), or through
summer and/or part time employment.
E. The student should need financial assistance to pursue a post high school education.
F. The student should have above average grades when compared with other members of the graduating
class.
G. Application deadline is April 1.
11. Hanover, Kansas Horseshoe Farmers Band Scholarship
A. This scholarship of $125.00 will be awarded to the graduating senior with the highest grade point
average who has been enrolled in band for four years at Marysville High School.
B. The winner of this scholarship must continue his or her education at a college or at an area vocationaltechnical school.
C. There is no application form to fill out for this scholarship.
12. Harriet M. Pollman Memorial Scholarship
A. The recipient must be a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church of Christ. Recipient will
be selected by the Pastor of the Marysville Evangelical United Church of Christ.
B. The criteria for the selection of the recipient will be financial need and academic achievement.
Consideration will be given to students who come from lower middle income homes who may not
qualify for other scholarships, and who have done well in school but do not necessarily rank at the top of
their class.
13. Heidi Stichternath Memorial Scholarship

A. The Heidi Stichternath Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to the applicant most deserving
based on the following categories. This scholarship will be awarded beginning with the senior class of
2008 and will be disbursed in August and January of each year. The student will need to provide the
USD 364 Foundation Treasurer with proof of enrollment as a full time student prior to the disbursement
each August and January.
B. The applicant should be someone attending a Catholic College, Public College or Vocational School
majoring in one of the following fields of study
1) Agriculture
2) Journalism
3) Nursing
4) Music
C. Applicants will be selected based on the following: Financial need - 50%, Extracurricular Activities 30%, GPA - 20%
D. Selection Committee: Catholic Priest (Current Priest at Marysville St. Gregory’s Catholic Church)
Marysville Vocational Ag Instructor (FFA), and Eric Stichternath
14. Irene Ellenbecker Scholarship
A. Applicant must major in education and pursue a career in education.
B. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic ability and dedication to education as a
profession.
C. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be turned in by April 1.
15. Iva Rowe and Jean Cunningham Berry United Methodist Scholarships
A. Applicants must be a member of the United Methodist Church to qualify.
B. High school seniors may obtain an application from the School Counselor and must turn it in by April 1.
16. J.A. and Minnie N. Beveridge Scholarship
A. Applicants are to be worthy graduates of Marysville High School who will attend a college, university,
or technical college in Kansas.
B. Applications are available in the MHS Counselor’s Office and the application deadline is April 1.
17. Jerome Lueers Family Scholarship
A. Applicants must be graduates of Marysville High School.
B. The recipient may attend a college, university, or technical college.
C. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be turned in by April 1.
D. The scholarship money will be paid directly to the recipient’s choice of schools. If the recipient does not
enroll in school second semester he/she will not receive the second half of the money.

19. Marysville High School KAYS Scholarship
A. Applicants will submit the online application about their high school activities and awards, involvement
as a KAYS member, and future plans.
B. Recipient(s) will be selected by KAYS Sponsors.
C. Deadline is April 1.
20. KNDY F.M. Radio Athletic Scholarship
A. Open to any Marysville High School senior who has or will have lettered at least once in four years in
any sport. Applicant must be academically sound enough chosen on academic grounds to be on a ballot

for KNDY booster club members to vote on. The booster club members select the recipient by ballot.
The winner must enroll in some institution of post secondary education to receive the cash award.
B. Application must be completed and in the School Counselor’s Office by April 1.
21. Knight of Columbus Scholarship
A. Available to one young Catholic man and one young Catholic woman each year
B. This is a $500 scholarship
C. Due the last Friday in April
22. Laurene L. Luckeroth Scholarship
A. The scholarship shall be awarded to a graduating MHS senior who will be entering college in search of
an “Education Degree”. A preference shall be given to any recipient who will attend Kansas State
University, but is not required to apply or receive this scholarship.
B. The recipient shall be judged on quality of student, quality of ability to teach, character, knowledge of
school events, demonstration of school pride, and thoughtfulness of other students.
23. Leo and Lucille Schmitz Scholarship
A. Any senior who will attend college, junior college, or vocational school
B. Recipient should be involved in extracurricular events, exhibit outstanding character, excellent
leadership abilities, and major in Agriculture, Ag Business, or Business related field.
C. The student should plan to come back to the Marysville Community.
24. Little Black Dress Alliance Scholarship – Due March 1st
A. Must be a female graduating from Marysville High School.
B. Be enrolled as a full-time student in a post-secondary institution (university, private college, junior
college, vocational or certificate program).
C. Write an essay, in 500 words or less using MLA format, describing a situation where you were
positively impacted by another female.
25. Lucas Wetter Memorial Scholarship
A. The scholarship is open to any Marysville High School senior who will be a freshman in the fall of a 2
or 4 year college.
B. The recipient must have worked hard and received above average grades during high school.
C. Selection criteria will be based on the qualities of: kindness and compassion, courage, good morals and
friendliness. Also considered will be: leadership in extra-curricular activities, good citizenship in
community involvement and work experience.
D. Financial need will be considered.
E. Application forms are due to the counselor by April 1st.
26. Marie Grauer Memorial Scholarship
A. The amount of the scholarship will be $100.00.
B. Applicants must major in music and pursue music as a career.
C. The application is available from the School Counselor.
D. The deadline for applying is April 1.
E. The recipient will be selected by the Superintendent, the instrumental music teacher, and the High
School Principal.
27. Marysville Area Community Theatre Scholarship

A. Open to the graduating senior, male or female, who has been actively involved in theatrical productions
at both the high school theatre and community theatre levels.
B. No particular major field is required.
C. The scholarship amount is around $100.00.
D. An application form is available in the School Counselors office.
E. The recipient will be determined by the board of directors of the Marysville Area Community Theatre.
F. Application deadline in April 1.
28. Marysville Education Association
A. Open to any Marysville High School senior male or female or any Marysville High School graduate who
will be a college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.
B. Must major in education and plan to be a teacher.
C. It is a $200.00 scholarship.
D. An application form may be obtained in the Marysville High School School Counselor’s Office.
E. The final selection is made by the executive board of the Marysville Education Association.
F. The deadline for the application is April 1.
29. Marysville Eagles Auxiliary Scholarship
A. No specific major or college is required.
B. Criterion for selection will be financial need.
C. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be submitted by April 1.
30. Marysville High School Alumni Association Scholarship
A. There will be multiple scholarships awarded by the Alumni board.
B. Selection of the recipient will be based on financial need, academic achievement and citizenship.
C. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be turned in by April 1.
31. Marysville Student Council Scholarships
A. Must be a senior at Marysville High School
B. Must have served in the Marysville High School Student Council for at least 2 years. (This does not
include class officers [i.e. Junior Class President])
C. One or Two $600 scholarships will be given to the two individuals who were deemed the most
productive for Marysville High School Student Council.
D. The due date is April 1
32. Marysville Kiwanis Scholarship
A. One scholarship of $500 to the outstanding senior male.
B. One scholarship of $500 to the outstanding senior female.
C. Selection of the winners will be based primarily on the academic standing and activities of the
applicants.
D. Applications are available from the School Counselor and they must be submitted by April 1.
33. Marysville Memorial Wrestling Scholarship
A. Applicant must have been a Mat maid, wrestling cheerleader, wrestling manager or wrestler at
Marysville High School.
B. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be turned in by April 1.
C. The scholarship will be paid in two semester installments. In order to receive the second semester
installment, the recipient must be in good academic standing at the school of his or her choice.

34. Marysville Rotary Scholarship
35. Melvin G. Peterson Scholarship
A. Preferences will be given to applicants who plan to major in engineering at Kansas State University or
any other four-year college or university.
B. Additional selection factors will be academic rank in class, participation in school activities, and
citizenship in the school and community.
C. The School Counselor has applications which must be submitted by April 1.
36. Pepsi-Cola Scholarship
A. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded
B. Applications are available on the school website or at the Counselor’s office.
37. Ray and May Cohorst Scholarship
A. It is for a graduating senior who is not the top student in the class but who has worked hard and done
well in school.
B. Financial need will be considered.
C. The recipient is free to attend any two or four year school in Kansas.
D. No particular major is specified.
E. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be submitted to them by April 1.
38. Richard R. Rowland Scholarship
A. Open to any male or female who will be a college freshman in the fall of 2015 and who will be majoring
in education.
B. Applicant must plan to be a teacher.
C. An Application form is available in the School Counselor’s Office.
D. The deadline for application is April 1.
39. Sons of the American Legion Scholarship
A. The recipient is free to attend a technical college, trade school, college or university.
B. The scholarship will be awarded at Christmastime for use during the second semester. The recipient
must be in good standing academically at the time the scholarship is awarded.
C. Selection criteria are academic achievement, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, volunteer
work, character and financial need.
D. The recipient will be selected by a scholarship committee made up of members of the Sons of the
American Legion.
E. Application forms are available from the School Counselor and must be turned in by April 1.
40. Stockard Scholarship
A. All interested class graduates should see the School Counselor to determine their eligibility to apply.
B. The amount of the Stockard Scholarship will be $2000.00 and it is renewable up to five years.
41. United Bank and Trust Scholarship
A. Applicants must be a member of a Marshall County High School graduating class.
B. Applicants who plan to major in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources,
Agriculture Business, or Agriculture Economics will receive preference.
C. Applications are available from the School Counselor and must be submitted by April 1.

43. Wallace & Carol Anderson Toedter Memorial Scholarship
A. One scholarship award will be for undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas.
B. A second scholarship award will be for undergraduate studies at any college, university or tech school
located in the state of Kansas.
C. Selection will be based on the student’s need, past academic performance, school choice, extracurricular
& community activities, and career plans.

44. Marysville Kiwanis Loan
A. A $500.00 educational loan is available through the local Kiwanis Club. See the School Counselor if
you are interested.
45. Arthur F. Pape Student Loan
A. A locally available interest- free loan comparable to a Stafford Loan.
B. Applications are available from BOK financial.
C. Applications should be submitted to Kathy Weyer at BOK financial located in Branch Bank of United
Bank and Trust in Marysville any time, but it is to your advantage to submit the application as soon as
possible.
46. William L. Simpson Loan
A. This trust fund makes interest free loans while in school available to graduates of Marysville High
School who want to study nursing or pharmacy.
B. BOK financial makes the loans and arranges the payment.
C. Interested students should see Kathy Weyer at BOK financial located in the Branch Bank of United
Bank and Trust in Marysville.
47. Sara L. Eddy Scholarship Fund
A. Any woman whose residence is in Marshall County, Kansas and has been accepted to attend (and in fact
does attend) a four year accredited institution of higher learning that is located more than 500 miles from
the county seat of Marshall County is eligible to apply for the scholarship.
B. Scholarships will be awarded to female students participating in undergraduate degree programs only.
C. Successful candidates will be selected based on evidence of their scholastic and extra-curricular
achievements, motivation, and financial need.
D. Application materials must be postmarked by March 31st!
