Click Books, E-books, Videos, & More to access the Kean Catalog. Type your key words in the search box underneath Find This: Click Search. Evaluate your search results. Make note of the call number and status for any titles of interest. When a book record’s Status is Not Charged, this means that the book is not checked out and should be available on the shelf. Click Articles & More to access the Databases. The databases are organized in two different lists. In one list the databases are listed alphabetically, and in the other list the databases are listed by subject or format. Brief directions are provided on the next pages to help you navigate these electronic databases. [Note: When you are off-campus, you will be asked to enter your Kean Library Barcode after you click on a database name. Your barcode is located on the back of your Kean University photo ID card.] Science Online Biography Reference Bank Science Online provides extensive definitions, biographies, and articles for a variety of scientific disciplines. To search Science Online for articles using your key terms: Click the letter S on the Jump to menu. Click Science Online (Facts on File). Scroll and select Science Online under Available Databases. Type search terms in the Basic Search box. For instance, type: Brahe, Tycho Click Search. Browse the article titles listed under the All Results category, or select one of the other result categories (such as, Biographies or News Articles) to browse a more focused set of results. Click an article title to access the full text for any relevant item. E-mail the article you are currently viewing by clicking Email in the Page Tools box located on the right-hand side of the screen. Biography Reference Bank provides more than 140,000 biographies. To search Biography Reference Bank for biographical information: Click the letter B on the Jump to menu. Click Biography Reference Bank (WilsonWeb). Type a person’s name in the boxes adjacent to Search For: For instance, type: Johannes Kepler Click Start. Click the person’s name to access a list of biographies. Click results listed next to Resource Links to access full-text biographies of the person. E-mail the article you are currently viewing by clicking the blue Email button located on the top left-hand side of your screen. If full-text link options are not present and you are on-campus, click the icon with the blue arrow to check the availability of full-text for the article in other Kean University Library databases. Click Facts on File World News Digest – 1940 to present (Facts.com). Click one of the buttons on the upper toolbar, such as Issues and Controversies or Today’s Science. Type search terms in the search box on the left-hand side of the screen. For instance, type: global warming Click GO!. To search Britannica Online for wide-ranging articles from Encyclopaedia Britannica: Click the letter B on the Jump to menu. Click Britannica Online. Type your search terms in the box labeled Search. For instance, type: Hubble space telescope Click Go. Click the title for any document in the search results list to access the fulltext article. E-mail the article you are currently viewing by clicking the blue Email Article button located on the right-hand side of your screen. CQ Electronic Library is a database that provides access to reports and government documents on wide-ranging topics from the CQ Public Affairs Collection, CQ Researcher, and CQ Supreme Court Collection. To search CQ Electronic Library using your key terms: Click the letter C on the Jump to menu. Click CQ Electronic Library (Congressional Quarterly). Type search terms in the search box on the left labeled All CQEL Search: Search across your library’s CQEL collections. For instance, type: global warming Click Go. Result: The first 30 retrieved document or report titles will be displayed. Click titles in the results list to access full-text items. View a report in PDF (page image) format by clicking either the PDF Color or PDF B/W button (when available) in the top right-hand corner of the screen. E-mail the document or report you are currently viewing by clicking E-mail This Document or E-mail Report located in the top right-hand corner of the screen. 3 EBSCOhost Research Databases Science Online To search the EBSCOhost Research Databases for popular and scholarly articles using your key terms: Click the letter E on the Jump to menu. Click EBSCOhost Research Databases (EBSCOhost). Click EBSCOhost Web. Select Academic Search Premier, MasterFILE Premier, and/or Science Reference Center. Click Continue. Type your key terms in the search box labeled Find: Use the “and” operator to combine terms and retrieve items that contain all of the terms. Use the “or” operator to retrieve one term or the other term (not necessarily both terms). Use the asterisk (*) as a truncation symbol to replace the ending of your key words and retrieve items with similar word roots. For instance, type: global warming and kyoto Limit your results to articles reviewed or judged by scholars in the field (in other words, scholarly or peer reviewed articles) by selecting Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals under the Limit your results heading. Click Search. Result: The first 10 retrieved article titles will be displayed. To search Science Online (American Association for the Advancement of Science) for articles published in the journal Science from 1997 to present: Click the letter S on the Jump to menu. Click Science Online (American Association for the Advancement of Science). Type your key terms in the search box toward the top right-hand corner of the screen. Use the “AND” operator to combine terms and retrieve items that contain all of the terms. Use the asterisk (*) as a truncation symbol to replace the ending of your key words and retrieve items with similar word roots. Use double quotes (“”) to retrieve items that contain specific phrases. Click ScienceDirect (Elsevier). Click the Search button to access the Basic Search Template. Type your key terms in the first and second boxes underneath Term(s):. Use the “and” operator to combine terms and retrieve items that contain all of the terms. Use the “or” operator to retrieve one term or the other term (not necessarily both terms). Use the asterisk (*) as a truncation symbol to replace the ending of your key words and retrieve items with similar word roots. For example, type, First Search Box: space shuttle* Second Search Box: safety Click Search. Result: The first 200 article titles will be displayed. If the full-text article is available online for a specific item, you will see a Full Text + Links link, a PDF link, or both immediately below the item. Click one of these links to view the full-text article. E-mail the full-text article you are viewing by clicking Abstract or Full Text + Links, then click E-mail Article located in the green box on the right-hand side of your screen. Lastly, find full-text articles cited in the article by scrolling to the references section at the end of the article and clicking on Full Text + Links when provided for relevant citations. To search OmniFile Full Text Mega (WilsonWeb) for scholarly articles using your key terms: Click the letter O on the Jump to menu. Click OmniFile Full Text Mega (WilsonWeb). Select Biological & Agricultural (BA) or General Science (GS) instead of All from the Subject Area drop-down menu. Type your key terms in the first, second, and/or third boxes adjacent to Search For: Use the “and” operator to combine terms and retrieve items that contain all of the terms. Use double quotes (“”) to retrieve items that contain specific phrases. Use the asterisk (*) as a truncation symbol to replace the ending of your key words and retrieve items with similar word roots. For example, type: First search box: Hubble space telescope Second search box: Mars Limit your retrieved results to articles reviewed or judged by scholars in the field (in other words, scholarly or peer reviewed articles) by selecting Peer Reviewed. Click Start. Result: The first 10 retrieved article titles will be displayed. If the full-text article is available online for a specific item, you will see a blue page icon, red PDF icon, or both immediately to the left of the item. Click one of these icons to view the full-text article.
