A
leading Indonesian agri-food corporation, PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, Tbk, is
signing an agreement of cooperation with UB Faculty of Animal Husbandry on
Tuesday (9/2). The corporation, which is represented by the director, Drs. Ignatius
Herry Wibowo, is accepted by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yogi Sugito and the Dean of
the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hartutik, MP in the rectorate building.
In his speech, the director of the company, which is orientating its business in cattle
feed, chicken breeding, bird processing, and water cultivation, said that cooperation of
UB with PT. Japfa Comfeed is one of the effort to support Indonesian education.
Other aids done by the corporation is renovation of Elementary School in disaster area
such as Aceh, Padang and Yogyakarta, aside from "Japfa For Kids" program, which
help in fulfilling children's needs of nutrient and health. Cooperation has been
conducted with UB Faculty of Animal Husbandry is schooling the employees children
on undergraduate level. "After learning about animal husbandry, agriculture, and
fishery, you should not forget it after graduated", Herry said. "It is expected that the
alumni of animal husbandry, agriculture, and fishery can work according their
competence, because the three aspects is the basic supporting elements of the nation",
he added. With the cooperation between the two institutions, Herry also expect that
there will be a synergy in the needs of community, industry, and higher education.
According to him, this will help to solve some problems that his corporation faces.
"Some feed such as alfa alfa grass and beans are produced in sub tropical area, which
is always imported. "alfa alfa grass and beans are usually imported from sub tropical
country such as Brazil, Argentina and US. Through the conducted research, it is
expected that the two kinds of feed can be produced in Indonesia, which is a tropical
region", he said.
Two Phases
The five years cooperation will be implemented in two phases. The first one is the
construction of close house and open house bird cage in the field laboratory of UB
Fact of Animal Husbandry in Sumber Sekar- Dau, Malang. The two cages can hold
the capacity of 8500 bird cattle, with the funding of 400 million rupiah. According to
plan, the construction will take up to six months. On the construction period, the
student will be involved to share their knowledge in planning the construction of a
birdcage.
After the cage is constructed, cooperation will be continued with the broiler chicken
maintenance.
In her explanation, the Dean of UB Fact of Animal Husbandry said that the follow up
operational of the cooperation demands a serious concern. One of it is the need of
land expansion because of the very limited teaching farm area owned by UB Fact of
Animal Husbandry. According to the Dean, this is very important because there is a
plan to make the teaching farm a source of income generating. "Sumber Sekar is
planned to be used as a special region for research centre and bird and sheep cattle,
while for the cow and dairy cow will be focused in Ngijo", Prof. Hartutik said. Other
place that is also considered by UB Fact of Animal Husbandry for professional cattle
business is Sumberpucung, with the wide land in the region.
Other thing which is also important as a follow up of the cooperation is the
procurement ofmodern Chicken Slaugherhouse especially for broiler chicken. "The
students currently don't know the operational of modern chicken cutting. With this
facility, it is expected that they can learn the method", she said.[nok]
