Smoking - We are keen to give all our patients who smoke as
much help as possible to stop. Please ask at reception or at
any consultation for information and support.

Walking - Even the smallest effort can improve your quality of
life and make you feel healthier and livelier. As walking is a
very good exercise, which most people are able to do, and
don’t need special equipment for, then why not get started on
your fitness campaign. Simply start by walking for 15 or 20
minutes at a brisk enough pace to get your heart beating
faster, 3 times a week regularly. When you can easily walk for
an hour you are ready to move on to swimming, cycling or
running!
Healthy eating - A healthy diet doesn’t need to be a boring
one. Health experts tell us we are all eating too much fat, salt
etc, but what exactly does this mean? Why not speak to your
doctor/nurse or pick up some of our information leaflets so
you can enjoy a healthier diet?

Registration
In order to register with the practice you should bring your
NHS medical card. If you don’t have a medical card a
receptionist will ask you to fill in a form and will offer you a
registration medical appointment with the practice nurse or
Doctor of your choice.
You and your doctor
Patients are registered with the practice, not an individual GP.
For administrative reasons your medical card will be issued in
the name of one of the doctors; however, you can at any time
express a preference for a particular doctor. However, not all
the doctors in the practice provide all services and specific
doctors may not be immediately available.
If you have not been seen at the surgery for three years (or
one year for those over 75) you can request a check up
appointment if you wish.
Training Practice
The practice is involved in the training of medical students.
This is to further develop their communication and medical
skills. There may be medical students in with the doctor
during your consultation, but you will be asked beforehand if
you agree to this
Sources of Information
Leaflets and other written information about various illnesses
and conditions are available on display and from the practice
nurses.
Obtaining Test results
The practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and
data protection. We will only release test results to the person
to whom they relate until that person has given prior
permission for the release of the results or they are not
capable of understanding the results.
The Practice NHS Business information is available on request
in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.
Information sharing
The practice complies with Data Protection and Access to
Medical Records legislation.
Identifiable Information
Identifiable information about you will be shared with others
in the following circumstances:

To provide further medical treatment for you e.g. from
district nurses and hospital services
 To help you get other services e.g. from the social
work department. This requires your consent
 When we have a duty to others e.g. in child protection
cases.
 When we have external reviews for financial and
clinical governance.
Please inform the practice if you do not wish any information
to be shared.
Non-Identifiable Information
Anonymised patient information will also be used at local and
national level to help the Health Board and Government plan
services e.g. for diabetic care.
If you do not wish anonymous information about you to be
used in such a way, please let us know.
Consultations
The practice has an appointment system for all appointments,
which is designed to reduce waiting times and allow the
doctors and nurses to provide as high a level of care as
possible. The practice runs a system called Advanced Access,
which means that if you contact the surgery before
10.30am on the day that you require the appoinment,
we will guarantee that you see a Doctor within 24 hours. It is
our policy to provide appointments as soon as is feasible.
If you cannot keep your appointment, please inform the
surgery as soon as possible.
The surgery is open continuously from 8am-6pm for
telephone calls, except on training days.
Emergencies
Please help the receptionists by telling them whether or not
your problem is urgent. The practice has a policy of seeing
emergencies on the same day. If you need to see the
doctor that day please contact the surgery as soon as
possible. We have emergency appointments available every
day and it helps us if you can contact us early so we can plan
our day.
House-calls
If you are too ill to visit the surgery a doctor may visit you at
home. The doctors usually visit after 11:00am, so if you can
call before 11:00am it helps the doctors plan their routes.
The duty doctor will see urgent calls as soon as possible.
Please help the receptionists by telling them whether or not
your problem is urgent. A doctor or nurse may phone you
back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by
telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to
send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.
Repeat Prescriptions
If you require a repeat prescription, please contact the
prescription line on 0141 843 4349. This is an answering
machine where you will be asked to leave some details.
Alternatively you can use the tear off page opposite your last
prescription and either post it or hand it into the practice.
Prescriptions will be ready for collection in 2 working days or
alternatively you can arrange for your regular chemist to
collect the prescription for you. Medication requested which
is not on your repeat list may be available by prior
arrangement on special request. You should discuss this with
your doctor.

Inform the practice staff of any alterations in your
circumstances, such as change of surname, address or
telephone number. Please ensure that we have your
correct telephone number, even if it’s ex-directory.
As patients, you are responsible for your own health and that
of any dependants. It is important that you adhere to
information and advice given to you by health professionals,
and co-operate with the practice in endeavouring to keep you
healthy.
Patient Rights and Responsibilities
Out of Hours
You will be treated with respect and as a partner in your care.
Being a partner means you have responsibilities too.
Between 6pm and 8am Mon-Fri, and 6pm Fri-8am Mon, the
surgery is closed. In order to obtain medical advice at these
times, please call 08454 24 24 24. A receptionist in the
emergency call centre will answer your call.
They will either:
1) Arrange for you to speak to a doctor or nurse
2) Invite you to attend the centre to be seen by the doctor.
3) Arrange a home visit if you are too ill to visit the centre.
Please take a leaflet for further details from reception. Out of
hours cover is now the responsibility of the Argyll & Clyde
NHS Health Board. Further advice and information can also be
obtained from NHS24, whom you can call direct on 08454 24
24 24 or visit www.nhs24.com
We will:
 Ensure our patients have 24-hour access to medical
advice.
 Aim for you to have access to a suitably qualified
medical professional within 48 hours of your initial
contact during surgery hours, or in an urgent case, the
same day.
 Work in partnership with you to achieve the best
medical care possible.
 Involve you and listen to your opinions and views in all
aspects of your medical care.
 The prevention of disease, illness and injury is a
primary concern. The medical staff will advise and
inform you of the steps you can take to promote good
health and a healthy lifestyle.
We would respectfully ask that you:
 Let us know if you intend to cancel an appointment or
are running late.
