Melasma are caused by excessive deposits of melanin in parts of the face in the
course of lifetime. In general, women in their 30s get light or dark brown freckles
below the eyes, around the cheekbones, and at the cheeks, foreheads, noses and
upper lips due to pigmented lesions. There can be various factors causing
freckles, such as pregnancy, genes, stress, endocrine diseases and hormones, but
the biggest reason is ultraviolet rays.
Freckles usually occur to women in their 30s, but they can also appear on the
skin of women in their 20s who are frequently exposed to environmental changes
and sun rays. Freckles also occur to men who are exposed to serious stress.
Categorization according to depth of pigment
01. Epidermis-type freckles (freckles shallowly deposited at epidermis
of skin surface)
02. Thick skin-type freckles (freckles deposited deeply into thick skin)
03. Mixed-type freckles (freckles deposited at both epidermis and
thick skin)
There are no detectable symptoms indicating a vulnerability to freckles, but
persons with darker skin can get broader and darker freckles. Freckles worsen in
the spring and summer, when people are exposed to strong sun rays, and get
better in the fall and winter
Freckles have become one of the biggest skin problems for women aged 30 or

What is bilateral nevus of Ota-like macule?
Bilateral nevus of Ota-like macule, a disease causing pigmented moles on the
skin due to the existence of melanin cells that produce pigment in the thick skin,
is a kind of spot. Dark gray or brown specks appear at the cheekbones, below the
eyes, around the nose and at both edges of the forehead, like freckles after
puberty. Most people mistake them for freckles, and they generally appear in
persons in their 20s and 30s. Unlike freckles, they can appear in younger persons
after puberty. Unlike brown freckles, they are slate-grey. Freckles are wide brown
specks, but these look like a gathering of bean-sized round grey specks.

Symptoms of Ota-like macule – Brown or blue spots appear around the
