Academic Success and Social-Emotional Learning Susan Keister Monday, Dec. 3, 10-11:00 a.m. Skybox 1 Illinois is leading the way in requesting implementation of schoolwide policies regarding social and emotional learning (SEL). Research demonstrates that when schools and classrooms are well managed, safe, and caring, and students are taught social and emotional skills through evidencebased programs, they improve their academic performance, increase prosocial behaviors, and demonstrate less risky behaviors. The K-12 Lions Quest curricula link social and emotional learning (SEL) with academic success. Evaluation of Lions Quest programs indicates that when programs are implemented with fidelity, students increase their math and reading scores while developing a range of respectful and responsible behaviors. Please join us for this informative session highlighting the latest research from CASEL, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, and learn how Lions Quest programs meet the Illinois SEL standards for classroom and school-wide programming. This workshop will provide educators with state-of-the art research and practical strategies for implementing the best SEL practices in the classroom, school and community.
