1. They’re not Nickelback, but this band’s first album features the songs “Someday” and “American’t,” and is
entitled Midget Tossing. The entirety of this band’s third album is featured in the video game Amped: Freestyle
Snowboarding, includes songs like “Trembling” and “Big Apple Heartbreak,” and is entitled One For the Kids. A
single from this band’s best-selling album begins, “I think I’m breaking out/ I’m gonna leave you now/ There’s
nothing for me here it’s all the same,” but that song, “Way Away,” is not as well known as the album’s eponymous
track, which reminisces about “a place on the corner of Cherry Street” where “We were both 18 and it felt so right,”
a feeling that also comes from the titular seaside location. This is the partial resume of, FTP, what Jacksonvilleformed and LA-based pop-punk band who released “Ocean Avenue,” whose name is also a warning device issued to
players in soccer?
A: Yellowcard
2. This character has appeared as the Golden Oldie, a herald of Galactus who discovered a baker of planet-sized
snack cakes to assuage his hunger, and an April Fool’s joke indicated that she would be a playable character in
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. She was once the target of the Chameleon, but outsmarted him by feeding him oatmealraisin cookies laced with Ambien, and at one point developed a romantic relationship with the Avengers’ butler,
Jarvis. She was brought back from the edge of death by Mephisto at great cost to the superhero with which she is
most associated, whose marriage was thus erased from the timeline. That near-death experience occurred as a result
of a botched assassination attempt on that hero after he unmasked himself during Marvel’s Civil War, and the hit was
ordered by the Kingpin. FTP, name this widow of Ben, the surrogate mother and biological aunt of Peter Parker.
A: Aunt May Parker (prompt on Parker… or, y’know, Aunt)
3. In a 2009 YouTube video, a fictional character named Brantford Winstonworth states that while he does play this
sport, and does get chicks, he doesn’t get chicks because he plays this sport, but rather because he is very affluent. A
Facebook group with over 14,000 members claims in its title that 90% of this sport is in “the flow,” referring to the
stereotypical hair styles featured by many players of the sport. It is the sport seen played in American Pie by Stiffler
and Oz. The most recent champions of the highest professional league in this sport were the Toronto Nationals,
while the most recent collegiate champions are Syracuse University, who has won 10 NCAA Championships, 1
more than the second-placed team, Johns Hopkins. FTP, name this originally Native American sport played with a
rubber ball and a netted stick.
A: Lacrosse (accept: Lax) 4. One episode of this show, “Wheel of Fortune,” featured guest appearances by Pat Sajak and Vanna White as
themselves, and this show has also guest-starred Hulk Hogan. The first four seasons of this show did not have
overarching plots, but included such single-episode storylines as the titular group’s search for a professor who
invented a foolproof Las Vegas gambling system and that group’s shutdown of a small town preacher’s illegal
moonshine operation. In the fifth season, that group is finally apprehended for the alleged misdeed referred to in this
show’s introduction, and that introduction is repeated almost verbatim in the trailer for a 2010 movie remake of this
show, and is also used in the Family Guy episode where Peter, Joe, Quagmire and Cleveland win a costume contest
at an 80’s TV convention. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can
buzz in and, FTP, name this 1980s TV show whose titular group features Hannibal, Face, and Murdock, as well as
Mr. T. as B.A. Baracus.
A: The A-Team
5. This song features a sample of “Love on a Two-Way Street” by The Moments, and is used in the first half of the
trailer for Sex and the City 2. The artist who collaborated with this song’s lead artist released a Part Two of this
song on her most recent album, The Element of Freedom, and the rap vocals of this song were replaced with an ode
to suburban life when that artist performed on The Colbert Report. This song was the entrance music for Derek Jeter
during the 2009 MLB season, and this song’s rapper claims that “I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee
can.” Alicia Keys sings about a “concrete jungle where dreams are made of” in, FTP, what 2009 Jay-Z song about a
certain region of the Northeastern US that features Times Square and the Statue of Liberty?
A: Empire State of Mind
6. In one sequence in this film, the main character looks at his reflection in a car window and sees Han Solo winking
at him while the people around him dance to Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams”. The opening of this film sees
the disclaimer, "Any resemblance to people living or dead is purely accidental …” but it then follow with the direct
comment “Especially you, Jenny Beckman ... Bitch." The starring couple first speak in an elevator, as the male lead
is surprised to learn that the female lead is a fan of the Smiths. The two main characters would eventually break up
during a pancake dinner after watching “The Graduate” at the movie theatre. Heartbroken, Tom Hansen quits his
job writing greeting cards and begins working at his dream of becoming an architect, which leads him to meet a girl
named Autumn played by Minka Kelly at the end of the film. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars opposite Zooey Deschanel
in, FTP, what 2009 indie film about spending the titular amount of time with the title female and not about the
possible prospects of global warming.
A: “(500) Days of Summer”
7. This song has been sampled in Nas’s song “New World”, as well as Jojo’s single “Anything.” In it, the singer talks
about things such as stopping an old man along the way, and wild dogs crying out in the night. The music video
opens with an image of a spinning globe, and later a man throws a spear that starts a fire in a library, just as the lead
singer finds a book sharing its title with this song. In the chorus, the singer states that “there’s nothing that a hundred
men or more could ever do,” before saying that he blesses the rain down in this titular location. For ten points, name
this 1982 hit by Toto, which shares its name with the continent on which Nigeria is located.
A: “Africa”
8. It is from this location that the protagonist first departs for One Island, and this location is home to a building that
houses the Secret Key. Its appearance changes drastically in the sequels to the original games in which it appears,
since a volcanic eruption in the second iterations obliterated all the buildings here except one. The resulting volcano
can be scaled with the Rock Climb technique in an upcoming release, and before the eruption, this location featured
a lab whose researchers could bring the fossilized Omastar or Kabuto back to life. Its most infamous feature is
perhaps its eastern coast, where in the original versions of the game the player could Surf to activate the Missingno
glitch. The gym leader Blaine can be found on, FTP, what isolated area of the Kanto region from the Pokemon
franchise?
A: Cinnabar Island
9. At age 10, this actor submitted his resume to the Carol Burnett Show, and Tupac Shakur declared himself a big
fan of this man. He had roles in All in Good Taste and Finders Keepers, but his first big role was in 1985’s Once
Bitten, where he played a high school virgin who is seduced by a centuries old vampire. More recently, he played a
man whose entire life is an internationally-televised reality show in The Truman Show, and Fletcher Reede, a man
whose son’s birthday wish forces him to tell the truth for an entire day. Receiving critical acclaim for his role as the
ex-boyfriend of Kate Winslet’s Clementine who has his memories of her erased in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind, this is, FTP, what Canadian-born actor whose used the catchphrase “Alrighty then!” in his role as the titular
animal investigator in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective?
A: Jim Carrey

number 1 in a “Top 10 hottest male athletes poll” by SI for Women. This player, the 2007 Walter Payton Man of the
Year, is the all-time career leader in the NFL for fumbles returned for touchdowns. A former Akron Zip, he led the
league in sacks in 2002 and was named the 2006 AP Defensive Player of the year. Additionally, he leads all active
players in career sacks. After 2007, he was traded away to Washington, but only spent one season with the team
before resigning with the team he had started his career with in 1997. A one-time Dancing With the Stars runner-up,
FTP, name this long time star defensive end who has played all but 1 of his seasons with the Miami Dolphins.
A: Jason Taylor
11. One music video parodying this artist features a corresponding fictional male counterpart and includes the lyrics,
“I give good headache, I’ll make you scream/ Is this reality or just a fever dream?,” and songs from her most recent
album include “Alejandro,” “Speechless,” and “Telephone,” the latter of which features Beyoncé. A better-known
song from that album references Hitchcock films with the lyrics, “I want your psycho/ Your vertigo stick/ Want you
in my rear window/ Baby you’re sick.” One song from this artist’s debut album, The Fame, was described by this
artist as being about the use of the title concept to mask one’s sexuality, and was covered in a partial rendition by
Christopher Walken, including the line, “I’ll get him hot, show him what I got.” A costume made entirely of plastic
bubbles and a Kermit the Frog suit have been among the crazy fashion choices of, FTP, what singer of “Bad

12. This movie is paid homage to by a Robert Coover short story that uses exact quotes from this movie, features an
explicit sex scene between this film’s two protagonists, and is entitled “You Must Remember This.” Characters in
this movie include Annina Brandel and Signor Ferrari, the latter of whom is a business rival of this film’s male
protagonist, and one notable scene shows a group of German officers attempting to drown out a rousing chorus of
“La Marseillaise.” One apocryphal story about this movie is that the female lead did not know until the end of
filming if she would end up with Victor Laszlo or the man who delivers four of the six lines this movie has in AFI’s
Top 100 Quotes list. With such classic lines as, “Here’s looking at you, kid,” this is, FTP, what 1942 classic starring
Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine, named after a certain city in Morocco?
A: Casablanca
13. It is mentioned on the CBS vampire drama Moonlight in a list of things that the vampire Mick St. John is glad he
lived long enough to see, along with tee-ball, and in TNT’s Leverage characters in this are referenced as a metaphor
for one of the show’s character’s waiting for another to fail, so that he can save the day. In Stargate Atlantis, a
diversion is caused when one character is distracted by another who pretends that this activity is “a silent passion” of
hers. In How I Met Your Mother, Ted meets a handbag designer remembered only as “Blah-Blah” while engaged in
this activity, and in another episode, after Ted and Barney agree to a challenge, Barney leaves the room yelling his
name in an allusion to a notable participant in this activity. One South Park episode featuring it sees the use of a 1
gigabyte flash drive to store the Sword of a Thousand Truths—an extremely powerful item from, FTP, what game

that was a birthday present. In another series, she is depicted as a junior high student with a rapid gait and the ability
to pull a large supercomputer out of a tiny briefcase, and she is far less inclined than another of her friends to suspect
Red Herring of any wrongdoing. She is portrayed by Linda Cardellini in two live action films, and though she is
almost blind without her glasses, she excels when her gang splits up to look for clues, often declaring, “Jinkies!”

glove, at 1st Base, in 1997. In a second stint with the Orioles in 2005 after a second stint with Texas, he became only
the fourth player in history to join both the 3,000-hit and 500-home run clubs, though the glory was short-lived as he

disappear/and if you’ll come/I’ll take you somewhere to go/to keep from growing old,” but that song by the Foo
Fighters is less recent than a song by this name that reminisces “Remember those walls I built/well baby, they’re
tumbling down,” before the chorus proclaims “Everywhere I’m looking now/I’m surrounded by your embrace.”
This word also names a video game series in which the titular megastructures were built by the Forerunners to
