Entrance Requirements
An honours degree in a relevant discipline (normally a 2.1 or above).
Additional Information for International Students
Applicants for whom English is not their first language would normally require either: an
IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 575 (paper-based), or 90 (internet-based) or an
equivalent qualification.
Duration
1 year full-time or up to a maximum of 31 months part-time

Course Content
Four taught modules from the following:
Research Methodologies and Postcolonial Theoretical Contexts (compulsory)
Dissertation (compulsory double module)
Modern Indian Literature in English
Northern Ireland and the World
Post-Colonial Memory
Postcolonial Timor-Leste
Reading the Book of Nature
Roots of Liberation: Theology and Martyrdom in Latin America 1500-2000
The Politics of Northern Ireland
The Politics of the Republic of Ireland
Assessment
The taught modules will normally be assessed by written assignments; candidates for the MA
who have reached a pass mark in the taught modules will submit a dissertation of 15,000
words.
Funding
Funding varies from year to year but is normally available from DEL and/or the University,

Students on the MA in Postcolonial Studies in Context will be able (and encouraged) to
participate in the activities of Queen’s Postcolonial Research Forum. The Forum’s Seminar
Series hosts leading international scholars in the field of postcolonial studies, enabling
students to engage directly with those involved in current developments in the discipline. For
