Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care welcomes four new oncologists
Beth Herrick, MD, is appointed Medical Director of Radiation Oncology
FAIRHAVEN, Mass. — Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care today announced the
addition of four new oncologists and the appointment of Beth Herrick, MD, radiation oncologist,
as Medical Director of Radiation Oncology. The new oncologists will join the outstanding
Southcoast team, led by Physician-in-Chief Therese M. Mulvey, MD, and will practice at the
center’s Fall River and Fairhaven locations.
Beth Herrick, MD, Radiation Oncologist and Medical Director of Radiation Oncology
Beth Herrick, MD, joins Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care as a radiation oncologist
and has been appointed Medical Director of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Herrick was previously
with Commonwealth Hematology/Oncology at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. Prior to that she
practiced at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester and the Davenport-Mugar Cancer
Center in Hyannis.
Dr. Herrick earned her medical and undergraduate degrees from Cornell University
Medical College in New York. She completed residencies in obstetrics/gynecology and internal
medicine from George Washington University Hospital in Washington and a residency in
radiation oncology from Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Conn. Dr. Herrick is board
certified in radiation oncology. Her areas of interest include breast and gynecologic malignancies
and general oncology.
Susan J. Kim, MD, Medical Oncologist
Susan J. Kim, MD, joins the Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care as a medical oncologist.
Dr. Kim earned her medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine in
Philadelphia and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology in Boston. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Boston University
Medical Center and completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Tufts Medical Center in
Boston.
Dr. Kim has done research at the Tufts Medical Center Human Nutrition Research Center
and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for Cancer Research and Department of
Biology. She was the recipient of a national Nutrition Research Center/USDA Pilot Project Grant
to study obesity-associated colorectal cancer. Dr. Kim is board certified in internal medicine and
board eligible in hematology and oncology. Her areas of interest include breast cancer,
gastrointestinal cancers, lung cancer, and general oncology.
Sonia Seng, MD, Medical Oncologist
Sonia Seng, MD, joins Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care as a medical oncologist. Dr.
Seng earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y. Dr. Seng
completed a residency in internal medicine-pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New
York where she also received a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology.
Dr. Seng’s clinical research activities have focused on patients with prostate, bladder and
kidney cancers. A native of Nicaragua, Dr. Seng performed research on the availability of
palliative care for patients with advanced cancers in Managua. She is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Seng
is board certified in internal medicine and hematology/oncology and is a member of the American
Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association of Clinical Research. Her areas of
interest include prostate, bladder and kidney cancer and general oncology.
A. Jason Zauls, MD, Radiation Oncologist
A. Jason Zauls, MD, joins Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care as a radiation oncologist.
Dr. Zauls previously practiced in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical
University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., where he completed his residency and served as
chief resident. Dr. Zauls earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker
School of Medicine. He also completed an internship at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital and Tufts
Medical Center, both in Boston. He participates in oncology research and has published
numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals for a range of cancer treatments including head and
neck, lung, breast and prostate.
Dr. Zauls is a member of the American Society of Radiation Oncology, Radiological
Society of North America, American Brachytherapy Society and the American College of
Radiology. Dr. Zauls is board eligible in radiation oncology. His areas of interest include head
and neck cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer and general oncology.
In addition to Dr. Mulvey, the new oncologists will join the practices of Elizabeth
Blanchard, MD, medical oncologist; Patrick Gagnon, MD, radiation oncologist; Tushar Kumar,
MD, radiation oncologist; Harry Matelski, MD, medical oncologist; Todd F. Roberts, MD, MSC,
medical oncologist, and Mark Shparber, MD, medical oncologist.
