safety, comfort, chassis, powertrain performance as well as embedded telematics
and hands-free communication systems, Continental Automotive Systems has
secured itself a top position as a reliable partner of all major car manufacturers
worldwide. Automotive Systems is a division of the Continental Corporation, a leading
automotive supplier of brake systems, chassis components, powertrain controls,
vehicle electronics, tires, as well as technical elastomers. In 2005 the corporation
realized sales of € 13.8 billion. At present it has a worldwide workforce of around
85,000.
Across systems and with uncompromising quality, Continental Automotive Systems,
with global headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is specialized on
integrating active and passive driving safety, developing innovative electric drives
and making available superior body electronics. Core competencies are quality,
technology and cost competitiveness. In 2006 Continental Automotive Systems
celebrates altogether 100 years of successful automotive technologies. The slogan
"Forward Thinking" points to the future and the mission to keep pushing for new
dimensions in safe mobility and the joy of driving cars.
With the brands Temic and ATE the Division develops and produces electronic and
hydraulic brake, stability and chassis control systems, electronic air suspension
systems, sensors, engine management and transmission control systems, hybrid
drives, cooling fan modules, body and security electronics and embedded telematics
and hands-free communication system in cars. In 2005 Automotive Systems
achieved sales of approx. € 5.2 billion with a worldwide workforce of more than
24,000. It has 41 plants, research centers and test tracks in 17 countries worldwide.
The acquisition of the automotive electronics business of Motorola in July, 2006
added locations in North and South America, Europe, and Asia and approx. 4,500
employees.
With a technology pool ranging from technologically leading electronic brake systems
and life-saving driver assistance and telematics systems to environmentally friendly
hybrid drives, the division unites a unique innovative power for the development of
complex system solutions. The technological success story ranges from products
with a strong market position like ESC to high-tech products like electronic control
units for highly efficient double clutch transmissions, and to innovative, futureoriented products like hybrid technology and safety relevant telematics solutions.
Constantly forward thinking and driving change, the Continental strategy for the

The acquisition of the automotive electronics business of Motorola in July, 2006
significantly increases Continental’s product portfolio and R&D capabilities in body
and sensor electronics as well as powertrain and chassis controls. It also adds
telematics as a new, complementary technology to Continental’s product portfolio
and further enhances Continental’s position as a leader in active and passive vehicle
safety. It will allow Continental to intensify and expand the integration of features that
help avoid crashes with features of post crash safety/emergency assistance of occupants.
The business units of Continental Automotive Systems reflect a customer-oriented,
integrated management of innovation, application and production to the benefit of our
customers.
