My brothers and sisters, to prepare ourselves to celebrate

I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and
sisters that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and
in my words in what I have done and in what I have
failed to do, through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask
blessed Mary ever Virgin, all the angels and Saints,
and you my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the
Lord our God.
May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

OPENING PRAYER
Heavenly Father, Creator of life and source of all love
that is true and life-giving, hear our loving prayers on
behalf of our friends Jack and Mary, on their wedding
day. Join and unite them faithfully in the sacrament of
marriage and make their love fruitful, so that together
they may bear witness to your divine love in the world.
This we ask through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING
A reading from the Book of Ecclesiasticus
A faithful friend is a sure shelter, whoever finds one, has
found a treasure. There is nothing so precious as a faithful
friend, there is no measuring their worth. A faithful friend
is a friend for life; and those who love the Lord will find
one. Whoever loves the Lord makes a true friend, for as
you are, so is your friend.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
SECOND READING
A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Romans
Let your love be genuine and sincere, and always prefer
good to evil. Love one another with great affection, and
always have a profound respect for each other. If you
have hope, this will make you cheerful. Do not give up if
difficulties come. Have faith in God and in your love. Be
perceptive to the needs of each other.
Seek to be compassionate and kind, humble and patient.
Always be there for each other when a quarrel begins.
The Lord has forgiven you so you must do the same and
GOSPEL
A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘This is my commandment:
love one another, as I have loved you. A man can have no
greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. You
are my friends, if you do what I command you. I shall not
call you servants any more, because a servant does not
know his master’s business; I call you friends, because I
have made known to you everything I have learnt from
my Father. You did not choose me, no, I chose you; and I
commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that
will last; and then the Father will give you anything you
ask him in my name.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
MARRIAGE CEREMONY
Mary and Jack, you have come here today so that the
Lord may seal your love in the presence of the priest, your
families and friends. In becoming husband and wife you
give yourselves to each other for life. You promise to be
true and faithful, to support and cherish each other all
your lives, so that your years together will be the living
out in love of the pledge you now make. May your love
for each other reflect the enduring love of Christ for his
Church. As you face the future together, keep in mind that
the sacrament of marriage unites you with Christ, and
brings you, through the years, the grace and blessing of
God our Father.
Priest:
M&J:
Is this your understanding of marriage?
It is.
M&J:
Have you come here of your own free will?
We have.
Will you love and honour each other in
marriage all the days of your life?
We will.
Are you willing to accept with love the
children God may send you, and bring them up
in accordance with the law of Christ and his
Church?
We are.
DECLARATION OF CONSENT
Priest:
I invite you then to declare before God and his
church your consent to become husband and
wife.
Jack:
I, Jack, take you, Mary, as my wife,
for better, for worse,

in sickness and in health,
all the days of our life.
Mary:
I, Mary, take you, Jack, as my husband,
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
all the days of our life.

What God joins together we must not separate.
May the Lord confirm the consent that you
have given, and enrich you with his blessings.

Mary, wear this ring as a sign of our faithful
