First Announcement and Call for Papers
10-11 July 2003
ESRIN, Frascati, Italy
The European Space Agency (ESA), European Commission (EC) and Advanced
Satellite Mobile Systems Task Force (ASMS-TF) are organising the First
International Conference on Advanced Satellite Mobile Systems (ASMS Conference
2003). The Conference will be held on 10-11 July 2003 at ESRIN in Frascati (Italy).
The increasing relevance of satellite mobile communications, their convergence with terrestrial mobile systems, broadcasting systems and multimedia applications, will form the framework for this first ASMS Conference.
The goal is to provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of the different aspects related with advanced satellite mobile communications, from the market perspective to recent advances in R&D..
There will be opportunity for the demonstration of relevant projects, technologies and trials.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
1.
Mobile satellite technology R&D
Satellite system architectures and studies
Broadband applications
Multicasting and broadcasting to mobile terminals
Space segment technologies
Standard and flexible terminals
Propagation modelling and experiments
Mobile terminal antennas
QoS provision and management
Mobile IP for satellite networks
Transport protocols for Internet via satellite
Resource management
Access layer issues
DSP for space communications
High order modulation techniques
Synchronization techniques
Interference mitigation techniques
Adaptive modulation and coding for satellite
communications
Advanced coding and iterative decoding techniques
Multiple access techniques and system capacity
2.
Market issues
Market and business analysis for satellite mobile communication systems
User requirements
Services and applications
Integration of navigation and communications
Integration of fixed and mobile satellite networks
Integration of mobile satcoms and terrestrial cellular networks
3.
Regulatory and standardisation issues

4.
Trials and demonstrations
Terminal Standards
Interoperability with terrestrial systems
Use of terrestrial repeaters
The Conference will feature:
Lectures by invited speakers
Contributed papers
Poster papers, exhibits, trials and demonstrations
Presentations will be accepted on the basis of abstracts of 600-800 words and may be submitted by using the on-line web form ( http://www.esa.int/conferences/asms03 ).
The Abstract should consist outline the work to be presented, the objectives and the achieved results.
Selection of papers will be made on the basis of originality and clarity of the ideas presented and relevance to advance satellite mobile communications.
Authors will be notified of the selection of their contribution by 15 April 2003 .
Authors whose abstracts have been accepted will receive further instructions for the preparation of their final paper.
The Proceedings will be available at the Conference. It is essential that all manuscripts be with the Conference Secretariat by 15 May 2003 at the latest.
