SCOPE OF WORK: To educate students across the spectrum of Biological Sciences at
Manchester Community College and to provide leadership in the development and
implementation of curricula and departmental/institutional activities that advance the mission of
the college. This position reports to the Department Chair of Science, Engineering, and
Mathematics.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:








Teaches an assigned academic course schedule that could include General Biology,
Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition and Human Diseases, and/or
Environmental Science and could also include teaching in laboratory settings, as well as
hybrid, or online modalities;
Demonstrates teaching effectiveness by remaining current with science pedagogy,
including the development and modification of course/program curricula and
instructional materials for a diverse student population;
Maintains accessibility and availability to assist students with their learning needs relevant
to the academic area of specialization;
Advises students across the spectrum of degrees and programs including Life Science,
Health Science, as well as Liberal Arts as needed and exercises professional judgment in
referring students to appropriate personnel or services offered by the College
Supervises student learning activities and academic progress and maintains accurate
records of student progress and accomplishments; Consults with and interprets these
to students and maintains accessibility and availability to assist students with their
learning needs; proficient in use of technology to assist these services;
Participates in the planning, development, and implementation of college sponsored
recruitment and retention activities including career and job fairs, student orientations,
registrations, and award ceremonies, and/or advising student activity groups, as assigned;
Engages in professional activities related to the area of teaching specialization that
partner the college with the wider community by serving on college or system teams, or
participating in community-sponsored events, as assigned;
Remains technologically and pedagogically current within the specialized field of
instruction, especially with learning management software and platforms; utilizes




appropriate instructional and administrative technologies as required for teaching
effectiveness and college operations/communication;
Serves on and leads College or System committees;
Observes all academic policies and procedures and institutional rules and regulations
and demonstrates ethical and professional behavior;
Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations;
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major
study in Biological Science. Possession of a Master’s degree in Education shall require twelve
(12) graduate credits in Biological Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science.
Experience: Three (3) years of teaching experience in life sciences involving a laboratory
setting or three (3) years of business or industry experience directly related to the field of life
sciences.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of basic teaching methods and materials,
problems and subject matter as relates to course of instruction. Basic knowledge of the
principles, methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in postsecondary teaching.
Demonstrated ability to work with and secure the cooperation of others and demonstrated
ability to supervise and direct the work of learners. Ability to maintain comprehensive and
accurate records of the progress and development of the individual student. Evidence of
consistent satisfactory professional attitudes. Must be willing to maintain appearance
appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing
authority.

activities or academic program administration or six (6) years of business or industry
experience directly related to the field of life sciences, two years of which will have been in the
supervision of personnel or program/project administration.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Thorough knowledge of teaching methods and
materials, problems and subject matter as relates to course of instruction. Complete
knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in
postsecondary teaching. Ability to evaluate student progress and provide guidance to both
students and instructors. Ability to supervise professional instructional staff and collaborate in
development of programs, policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively with businesses
and community organizations. Ability to originate and implement new programs and to
improve existing program. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned
duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
