died May 29th. The burial service was read in Holy

neighbours and acquaintances were present.
Afterwards the funeral party proceeded to Golders
Green Crematorium.

happened, however, at the beginning of WW2 the rate of call-ups Fire Watching and ARP was so great that many troops had to

The death of Mrs Bailey & Mrs Latchford have taken
from us two whose families have long been connected
with the village and this church. It was a grief to Mrs.
Bailey to have to move from this parish when she
entered a nursing home and she retained a lively
interest in all that happened in the village. Mrs
Latchford was fortunately able to keep closely in touch
with events through relatives and friends, though
unable to get about. May God Bless them both, and all
dear to them.
February 1st 1955 – Dr Sidney Lee was buried at
Thame, Oxfordshire – a memorial service was held the
next day in Leverstock Green. [Parish Mag February

- A memorial service was held for Dr. Sidney Herbert Lee which was attended by Rev. R A
Yates & Rev. P E Thomas as well as the current incumbent, Arthur Le Dieu. The latter published a letter in the March
Parish Magazine outlining Dr. Lee’s virtues and the part he had paid in the Leverstock Green community. A further
letter was published in the June magazine, photos of which can be seen against the appropriate date entre.

The Vicar announced that Mrs F Wykes who had been on the staff at Leverstock Green School for over 11 years, was
resigning at the end of April. He went on to add that: “Her services to the school, and her loving teaching of infants
whom she has welcomed at the beginning of their school career, have been invaluable.” The headmaster and
Churchwardens were happy to receive any donations. No entries from the parish registers were given.

The vicar reported that considerable alterations to the school had now been approved by the Managers of the school
and the County Council and that they had been sent to the Ministry for approval. The plans included building a new
hall, kitchen and medical room, together with the enlargement of two classrooms.

IN MEMORIUM
On Sat 18th august the ashes of Elizabeth Gale of Cherry Tree Farm were laid to rest in the cremation plot in the
churchyard, in the presence of her husband, her sons, daughter, sister and daughter-in-law. In her memory her
husband and family have new congregation and choir copies of Hymns Ancient and Modern for use in our parish
church. Our sympathy with those who have been bereaved is accompanied by with gratitude for this gift.

The death of Ethel George after many years of ill-health took from us one who was a devoted worshiper at Holy
Trinity, a member of the Mother’s Union and the Women’s Institute, and a dear friend to many. Our deep sympathy is
with her husband and son and other relatives. We are grateful for her life with us and commend her into the safe
keeping of God our Father.

Once again the letter from the vicar shed light on
important changes which affected not just the churches,
but also in years later LGVA, as the “area of interest” for
the Village Association, as set by the Charity Commission
was based on this decision and the parish boundary, so
that in 2010 that part of Adeyfield listed in the extract
below, and now on the other side of the dual
carriageway, is still part of Leverstock Green.

Our deep sympathy is with Mrs Reay, Anne and Rochard. Mr Reay will be greatly missed. Formerly a
member of our Parochial Church Council, and until his death a Trustee of the Village Hall 5, he has done much for the
village. His sudden death is a reminder of our continuing fellowship.................
It was with a deep sense of loss that parishioners learned of the death on November 14 of Frank Newton.
During the five years he has lived in the parish both he and Mrs Newton have taken a keen and active interest in the
Church (He was a Parochial church councillor and representative on the Diocesan Conference; at the time of his last
illness he was actively engaged in designing and promoting the new notice board.) Our deepest sympathy is with his
widow and relatives........
