State Educational Institution for Children's Additional Education "Regional Children's Ecological
Center" (hereinafter — SEI CAE REC, or Ecocenter) is a multilateral institution; it works upon
development of children's personal motivation for knowledge and creativity, upon satisfaction of social
and personal important needs by means of additional educational programs and services.
Educational activities in Ecocenter cover the following areas: studying and protection of flora
(ecological initiative Flora); studying and protection of animals (ecological initiative Fauna); studying of
preserved areas of our region (ecological initiative Preserved Areas); development of children's
ecological culture along with sustainable development (ecological initiative Together On The Clean
Planet); studying of landscape architecture of antique country-seats (Antique Country-Seats: Far and
Closely project); studying of paleontological remains of plants and animals, previously dwelled on this
territory (project Museum In The Open Air); protection, restoration and maintenance of spring brooks of
Ulyanovsk Region (Ecology And Soul).
In 2010, SEI CAE REC was a regional representative for 5 great Russian national contests:
Russian National Competition Of Water Resources Projects By Senior High School Students; Russian
national children's ecological forum Green Planet; Russian national children's activity We Are United In
Our Kindness, With Love For Russia; Russian national open contest of youth research works named after
V. I. Vernadskiy; Russian national contest of study-research ecological projects Man On Earth. Totally
4,520 students took part in these activities in Ulyanovsk Region, including 74 members of
SEI CAE REC.
Since 2005, Ecocenter works upon development of integrated net of regional ecological sites.
Currently, ecological sites are created in 18 counties of Ulyanovsk Region.
In 2010, there were held the following regional activities:
 Research And Practice Students' Conference ECO-2010, 112 participants;
 Academic Contest of Ecology for students of specialized ecological school grades, 205 participants;
 Primrose — ecological activity, about 1,1600 students took part in it;
 Long Live Spring Brook — ecological activity. 1,518 Ulyanovsk students took part in it, 23 spring
brooks were restored and maintained;
 The River Of My Childhood — ecological activity. About 1,400 students took part in it. The
participants held physical, chemical and botanical researches of rivers; they formed ecological squads to
clean river banks of household rubbish, and hold some environmental activities, such as creating and
placement of billboards with environmental announcements;
 Spring Haze — ecological activity. More than 1,300 students took part in this activity. In addition to
cleaning the territory, students raised awareness of the harm of incineration of leaves. As a part of this
activity, there was hold an Earth Day fest. Children set out tree transplants and bushes, and set beds with
flowers;
 On A Visit To The Marmot — ecological activity; more than 450 participants;
 The Day Of Crane — ecological initiative; more than 2,500 students;
 Living Fur-Tree — ecological initiative focused on the ecological education of population;
1,854 students were taking part in this initiative;
 The Day Of Birds — ecological marathon contest. 400 students were taking part in this initiative.
They hanged more than 300 artificial nests for bird;
 Protect Our Planet — ecological marathon contest dedicated to International days of protection
against ecological hazard. 2,686 students were taking part in this initiative;
 Winter Acclaims Love — photo competition; 210 students were taking part in this competition.
Photos showed the beauty of winter scenery, and life of nature in winter;
 We And Our Nature — competition of ecological posters and drawings, dedicated to 65th
Anniversary of V-Day; 225 students were taking part in this competition;
 Attention! Roly-Poly! —competition of video-projects. 20 ecological video plots were sent for this
contest. Overall number of participants was as large as 110.
Following the results of 2010, students of Ecological Center were awarded by Premium of the
President of Russian Federation to support talented youth, and four premiums of the Governor to support
talented youth of the Ulyanovsk Region.
