Description:
This course is designed for the students who have covered basic structures and rules of English
morphology. Throughout the course, the students are supposed to obtain fundamental knowledge on
English syntax: the sentence structure, parts of the sentence and word order. At the end of the term,
the students are expected to display good knowledge of syntax both in speaking and writing. In the
course of study the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills of the students are supposed to be
regularly checked orally and in written form.
Objectives:
This is an advanced grammar course which aims at providing students with the knowledge of the
specific features of English syntax which is of crucial importance especially for Armenian students.
Students are highly expected to get a mastery of a variety of typical English syntactical structures in
written and oral speech.

1. Grading policies:
The course grade is determined by attendance, participation, in-class and home assignments, oral
check-ups and written tests.

2. Attendance and class participation are of great importance for portioning the students’
grade. A student cannot earn a full participation grade if she or he has three unexcused
absences. Six unexcused absences will result in failing the course.
3. Academic honesty and behavior. Cheating in any form is a serious offence followed by
serious consequences. It will not be tolerated and the result is the failure in this course. All
the work students do for this course is expected to be their own.
Classroom conduct is to be professional, courteous and supportive. All cell phones
and their
equipment are to be turned off in the auditorium. Disruptive behavior will reduce the grade by 10%
