With all the hard work and premise of beautiful blue skies, Llanidloes Carnival was set to be a great success – and that’s exactly what it was. With the sun beating down on the crowds of spectators the numerous decorated floats made their way around the town to Victoria Park where Lucy Mayers was crowned Llanidloes Carnival Queen 2006. Prizes were bestowed on lucky participants throughout the day with the award for Little Cutie going to Nia Morgan, Glamorous Gran to Dwynwen Jones and this years Glamorous Granddad, was named as George Jones. George and his wife Florie were also presented with a special bouquet to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. Winning floats for the Lorry Mounted Tableau were the New Glastonbury by Dot Armitage & Co. and the Great Llanidloes Reef, put together by Heather Pugh & Co. Best Decorated Vehicles went to the sound of Music by Gamble & Bocking and the Visiting Queen from Newtown’s lorry. Best under 4 fancy dress was awarded to Adam Lawrence for his fantastic Thomas the Tank engine costume, and in the 4-8 age category, Jordans Jack in the Box was praised by judges. Connor Jones won best costume in the 9-14 age category, dressed as a Pepperami, whilst best Junior Group went to Friends for the Orient, courtesy of the 2nd Llanidloes Brownies. The Senior Group Evie George & Group won for their appearance as Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. Carnival Queen, Lucy said “I had a really great day, thank you to everyone who voted for me.” Lucy’s next appearance will be at Rhayader Carnival on 22nd July. Her proud mum Michelle said “Lots have people have commented to me what a lovely smiley Carnival Queen Lucy was. It really was a great day and I know Lucy was very proud to be chosen to represent Llanidloes.” Margot Jones from Llanidloes Carnival Committee said “Overall we had a fantastic day. We are absolutely thrilled with the days events we all had a superb time. We wish to thank all the participants for making it a very special family and community day. It is so great when every one joins in and we are already looking ahead to Llanidloes Carnival 2007.”
