Complete the following problems. Remember to follow the rules of dimensional analysis and show
your work.

How many centimeters are there in a marathon race (26.2 miles), if 1 mile=1.6 km?
2. The food that the average American consumes in a day provides 2.0 x 103 kcal of energy.
How many calories per second is this?
3. Your school club has sold 600 tickets to a chili supper. You, unfortunately, volunteered to
make the chili. You have a very large pot and a chili recipe that serves 10. The recipe calls
for 2 teaspoons of chili powder. How many teaspoons chili powder do you need? If 4 tsp = 1
Tablespoon and 16 T = 1 cup, how many cups are needed?
4. In a primitive barter society the following rates of exchange exist:
1 fot = 5 vum, 2 sop = 3 tuz, 4 bef = 3 tuz, 9 fot = 2 bef
A man has 4 sop and wants to convert all his possessions into vum. How many vum can he
trade for?
5. You are driving to KPHS at 35 miles per hour. What is speed in meters per second?
6. A typical beaker has a volume of 800 mL. What is its volume in cubic centimeters?
7. Density of manganese is 7.21 g/cm3. What is the density of Mn in kg/m3?
8. How large a container, in liters, would you need to hold 7.2 kg of gasoline? (density of
gasoline is 0.68 g / mL)
9. A sprinter runs the 200.0 yard dash in 24.8 seconds, what is his speed in miles per hour? (1
mile = 5,280 feet and 3 feet=1 yard)
10. Eggs are shipped from a poultry farm in trucks. The eggs are packed in cartons of one
dozen eggs each; the cartons are placed in crates that hold 20 cartons each. The crates
are stacked in the trucks, 5 crates across, 25 crates deep and 25 crates high. How many
eggs are in 5 truckloads?
