WORLD HISTORY SEMESTER RESEARCH During the course of this semester you will be researching, collaborating, and compiling your findings regarding empires /civilizations. During quarter one- you will be developed some beginning research, which will be further developed and presented during quarter 2. The guiding questions for this semester will need to be addressd: What factors helped to allow the development of this civilization/empire? What factors contributed/ or led to the demise of this civilization/empire? Be able to describe/explain the structure of this civilization, remembering the five themes of the social studies(geography, culture/society, economics, political/governmental structures, and history and achievements), and the essential components of a civilization: *Advanced cities, *Complex institutions, *Writing, *Specialization and workers,*Advanced Technology How will you present your information and findings? Each group will be creating a “book: on their civilization/empire. The “book” must be original, created by group members, and be a collaborative effort. You must include a correctly cited summary of sources used. You will be required to use a minimum of 5 sources. You many use 3 online reference sources that are reputable, factual and approved by the instructor. You must also use two sources which are not online. We will have some class time devoted to working on these projects; however it is ultimately the responsibility of you and your partner(s) to complete the necessary work and to work towards its completion. I would refer you all to the guidelines of this class that you received the first day-if you are not present on the day of presentation I will expect you to email me or your fellow partner(s) with this necessary information before the presentation. Each member of the group will be accountable and responsible for a specific section. It is expected that each member will be fulfilling their responsibility, so grading will be on an individual basis, not group. There will be a group grade only on collaboration. Due dates: Part one: You will have developed a list of who is responsible for what, have located several reliable sources to assist you, and have done a rough draft of what you plan to present. This is due on Thurs. Nov. 1. Part two will be the completed “book”. It will be due on Thurs, Dec. 6. The following graph shows areas to consider. If you have an idea not shown, feel free to discuss it with the instructor. You may only proceed once approval has been given. Region Asia China/Manchuria, Han Korea Japan Mongolia Middle East Syria Africa Morocco Europe Germany America’s Ecuador Iran Saudi Arabia Nigeria Ethiopia So. Africa Congo Algeria Austria Spain France Norway Ireland Russia Mexico Peru Brazil Argentina Alaska To assist you I will be breaking down some key points by theme to help guide you. Use these as a springboard to develop and expand your research. By today, you will have a group assigned, have chosen a region and area to explore and have assigned roles on who will be doing what. This will be submitted to the instructor. Any changes made by the group will need to be communicated to the instructor prior to the completion.
