United Youth Basketball League (UYBL)

Northwest Basketball Association (NBA)
Exists to provide a basketball experience for 6-12 graders wherein:
 Students and coaches from area churches can build Christian fellowship and self worth through
teamwork and strong interpersonal relationships
 Students and coaches can build Christ like attitudes in a competitive atmosphere
 Students and coaches can learn, practice and execute the fundamentals of basketball.
General Information about the league:
1. With regard to age grading of the program, we will try to implement new divisions this year. If there is
enough registration for at least four teams in each division, we desire to have
a. MS Boys (grades 6-8)
b. JV HS Boys (grades 9-10)
c. Varsity HS Boys (grades 11-12)
d. MS Girls (grades 6-8)
e. HS Girls (grades 9-12)
f.
If we do not have enough to subdivide HS boys we will play as we did last year – same with the girls.
With regard to students who play for their high schools, middle schools or high school aged AAU teams,
we feel that fellowship with your own church friends is vital and would encourage the students who are
advanced in the game of basketball to join this fellowship as an assistant coach and scout team player for
practices. However, we believe league play should be reserved for recreational players who do not have
basketball options other than rec/church leagues.
3. With regard to recruiting players from outside our churches, we believe this is a great way to bring
students into our ministries and encourage it, up to, but not to exceed four (4) players who are not
regular youth group attenders and who meet the aforementioned qualifications. Rosters may not exceed
twelve (12) players and it is recommended that they not exceed ten (10). Playing time becomes difficult
when there are more than ten.
4. We also encourage coaches and youth workers to incorporate prayer and brief devotion into practices
and other gatherings. We will be willing to provide brief basketball oriented devotions for coaches to
use.
5. All games will be played on Saturdays at one of three venues (Muirs Chapel UMC, Cornerstone BC, or
FBC Summerfield). There will be no forfeits. If there is a conflict of schedule due to church retreats or
something of that nature, the two teams will set a time to make up the game, preferably during the next
week at the venue where they were originally scheduled to play. Practices will begin in December and
the regular season of 8 games will begin on the first Saturday in January and will be complete by the last
Saturday in February. There will be a tournament held the first week of March, Thursday – Saturday..
6. With regard to officiating, we will use trained/certified officials from a local network. We will pay them
$15/game. We will also train students as scorekeepers and clock operators and pay them $5/game
toward their youth group accounts for mission trips and retreats. Youth ministers/workers should
recommend students for this position.
7. With regard to rules & clock, we will follow National High School Federation Rules ( 6-8 min quarters)
with the exception of overtime play, in which case there will be one (1) 4-minute overtime period. If
score is still tied, the game will be recorded as a tie.
8. Standings at the end of the regular season will determine seeding for the tournament.
9. The league fees will be $225/team.
10. Registration is due prior to Nov. 28. You can email excel file to fbcconnection@triadbiz.rr.com . There
will be a mandatory coaches/youth ministers meeting on Tuesday, November 29th at FBC Summerfield.
Dessert and coffee will be served. League schedules should be available at the coaches meeting unless
there are changes necessary due to registration numbers.
