Shorecrest Girls’ Basketball
2009-2010
CODE OF CONDUCT
FOR
SHORECREST
PLAYERS AND COACHES
In viewing the “big picture”, we all need to remember that
basketball is a game, and meant to be fun. We trust that is the
number one reason you are turning out this season. However, by
turning out for Shorecrest basketball, you are agreeing to comply
with some important expectations. We as coaches will match your
efforts by maintaining our professional integrity. Our program’s
reputation is very important to all of us.
As an athlete, you are often put under a microscope. You
represent our community. This is an important responsibility. As
coaches, we feel it is important to ask of our players specific things
that help promote a positive program and create the best possible
environment for all players to succeed. Please read the following list
and understand that by signing this contract, you commit to follow our
rules and expectations as long as you wear a Shorecrest uniform.
We also ask your parents/guardians to sign, acknowledging they
understand our program’s expectations. Any violation of a rule will
result in consequences, such as restricted playing time, a one game
suspension, or removal from the team.
Thanks and let’s have a great season!
The Scots’ Coaching Staff
Scots Agree to the Following:
1. I understand there are no shortcuts to success.
2. I realize that my commitment runs from November through March.
a. I will be on time to everything (practice, meetings, class, etc.) and I
understand the importance of punctuality. I understand absences are
only allowed in cases of illness and family emergency.
b. I understand that non-emergency absences and tardies will cost me
playing time, and potentially my spot on the team.
c. I understand some social activities will be sacrificed.
d. If I am sick, I will STAY HOME from school.
i. There is no such thing as healthy enough to be at school, but too
sick to practice.
3. I will attend every class and perform my best academically. I will inform a coach
if any of my grades fall below a “C”.
4. I will focus on studying my school subjects and the game of basketball. I
understand being on a team requires a lot of time commitment on and off the
court.
5. I understand the importance of taking care of my body and I will abstain from
any activity that may cause me harm.
a. I will eat healthy. No pop, candy, or junk food before practice or a game.
b. I will avoid smoking, alcohol, and other drugs. At no time will I put the
basketball team’s reputation at stake by putting myself in a position in
which the above may occur.
c. The night prior to games, I will go to bed early and allow my body plenty
of rest.
6. I will take pride in the name on the front of my jersey and represent Shorecrest
with class. I will demonstrate positive sportsmanship and I will respect officials.
7. I will respect my teammates and my coaches. I understand gossip and selfish
behavior can destroy the foundation of a team.
8. I will adhere to the requests of my coaches and understand they want what is
best for every player.
9. I will be intense. The Scots will never be outworked or outhustled.
a. I will demand of myself - and always give - my maximum effort.
b. I will support my team, regardless of how I am performing.
10. I will always strive for perfection.
These expectations are in addition to Shoreline School District’s
Extracurricular Code. Players who feel they are unable to uphold
these expectations should not sign the contract.
Once you have read the contract completely, share it with your
parent/guardian. If you agree to abide by these expectations, sign
below and return this sheet to Coach W. Keep the list of expectations
in your notebook where it can serve as a daily reminder.
I have read and agree to the guidelines set forth in this player
contract.
