AOptix Laser Com System Delivers 800 GBps Bandwidth
- Rugged, portable product based on adaptive optics breaks new ground in
bandwidth delivery CAMPBELL, CA (March 26, 2005) – AOptix Technologies, an emerging supplier
of electo-optical systems and technologies that enable next generation laser
communications, imaging, and directed energy systems announced the
availability of the company’s first production product, the GT1.0 Communicator.
Employing a unique, patented, bi-directional adaptive optics method of beam
control, the GT1.0 Communicator achieves a range of more than 20 kilometers
with virtually zero probability of intercept or detection. The system provides
unlimited bandwidth (800 GBps) with a fiber source and 1 GigE bandwidth with
the AOptix 1 Gig Ethernet COM interface.
This groundbreaking capability is packaged in a 9” x 13” x 13” chassis that
operates on battery power for more than 8 hours continuously. The robust
system weighs only 12 kg, can be tripod mounted, is fully man-portable and is
ready for field deployment today. For ground applications, the patented optical
sub-system enables building-to-building (in room) line-of-sight links directly
though windows with no performance degradation. The system’s intrinsic ability
to control the beam diameter down to a few centimeters provides unparalleled
LPD/LPI (Low Probability of Detection/Low Probability of Intercept). This highly
optimized beam control also allows for low power operation and significant range
improvement in challenging environments, exceeding any other laser COM
system available.
The GT 1.0 Communicator is currently in production and available. More
information can be obtained by contacting Jim Reeves, VP Sales and Marketing
at 408 583-1148, or through the website at www.aoptix.com.

Distinctions AOptix Adaptive Optics Technology
AOptix is a leader in developing technology to improve the delivery of optical signals
through air. The company’s patented adaptive optics hardware and software system is a
breakthrough in the field of Laser COM.
Through the use of a specialized, miniature adaptive optics assembly, AOptix has
evolved a unique and sustainable technology advantage that advances Laser COM
application by addressing and correcting atmospheric distortions. This patented
technology promises to dramatically accelerate the adoption of Laser COM and enable
massive increases in the bandwidth and extended range available to military and
commercial platforms of all types.
Adaptive optics delivers the highest link margin and the lowest link loss because
it efficiently handles beam divergence, scintillation and tracking. Beam
divergence occurs as a light path is scattered and increases in size as it travels
through the atmosphere. Most laser COM solutions use divergence to
compensate for miss pointing and platform motion. AO significantly reduces
divergence and therefore increases the power density on the receive end.
Pointing, tracking, and platform motion are accommodated using the capabilities
of AO and the inherent fine tracking in the fast tip/tilt steering mirror sub-system.
About the Company
AOptix Technologies provides leading-edge technical solutions utilizing patented,
ultra-high bandwidth systems that are extremely compact, reliable, with the
longest-range and lowest cost through modularized COTS components. The
product simplifies Point Acquisition and tracking phase by high frequency
scanning beam control offering the narrowest beam theoretically possible to
support clandestine man portable deployments, or links from ground vehicles,
aircraft, or satellites. The company is located at 580 Division Street, Campbell
CA 95008.
