1 DOWNLOADING DATA IN PPPRO
1.1
Drag & Drop from Kobra
To insert a single price into an Excel worksheet, simply drag the item from a Kobra display and
drop it in the relevant cell in the worksheet.
E.g. in Kobra press F4 for a pop-up quote window. In the command line of this window type
EUR= and press Enter.
You can now go back to Excel (the pop-up window remains on top) and drag a Bid price (for
example) for this pop-up and drop it in a cell in your worksheet.
1.2
Speed Lists
If you know the exact names of the fields that you want to display in a quote list, you can create
the list very quickly. In the worksheet, type the RICs of the instruments in a column of cells.
Type the names of the fields in a row immediately above the column.
2
In any cell directly below a column heading, right-click and select Real-time Speed List in the
pop-up menu. This displays the data that you have specified.
1.3
Assistants
The Assistants give you step-by-step processes for creating different types of table.
One advantage is that you can scroll through all the available fields to find the
ones you want. So start creating a table of data, click on the cell that will be the
top left corner of the table in the worksheet. Then select the relevant Assistant (as
described below).
3
2.
QUOTE LISTS
To create a quote list where the data is updated in real time, use Reuters/Assistants/Realtime Quotes. The advantage here is that you can scroll through all the available fields to
find the ones you want. And, as with all Assistants, you have different options for
formatting the table once you have specified the RICs and the fields.
In the final step, note the RtUpdate and RtGet buttons. If you have a large list of
instruments, use RtUpdate; set the time to every 10 seconds (for example). This is a more
efficient way of updating all the values in real time without Excel constantly recalculating.
If a large file, please
use RtUpdate()
3.
CONSTITUENTS AND CHAINS
To create a quote list showing the constituents of an index or a chain of data (e.g. HKDDEPO=,
.HSI, HKBMK=)
1. Click in the cell that will be the tope left-hand corner of the list.
2. Select Reuters/ Assistants/ Real-time Chain.
Once you have entered the chain RIC, the process is the same as for a quote list.

4.
TIME SERIES / PRICE HISTORY
To create a table with a detailed price history (a time series) of a single instrument:
1. Click in the cell that will be the top left-hand corner of the list.
2. Select Reuters/Assistants/Time Series Data. Add the RIC of the instrument, and then
click on the Next button.
4
3. In Step 2 of the Assistant, click to expand Last Trade, then select the data frequency (e.g.,
Tick for every trade, or 1D for daily). You can then select the individual values (e.g. open,
high, low and close). Up to 30,000 ticks and 20 years of daily price histories are available.
