The North Coast Conference Each person in the class is to take the role of someone involved in an incident that is effecting the coast of Northern Ireland. We should be trying to discuss the impact that pollution is having on the environment of Northern Ireland. Each group needs to have a spokesperson, a writer and a leader You need to prepare a short presentation to state whether your group is for or against pollution in the sea and why. (This needs to be about 3 – 5 minutes long) You need to prepare questions that you want to ask other groups when we come to discuss the pollution issue The Polluters Moyle District Council - They use long pipes to transfer pollution directly from people’s houses into the sea. They do not want to have to spend the £24 million pounds needed to make a sewage processing plant. UK Waste – A sewage company ‘We need to dump our waste somewhere’ The Locals Residents – They live in the local area and are affected by the pollution as it is washed up on the beach. Local Fishermen – They work in the sea in this area and area finding that pollution is killing the fish that they are trying to catch Local Wildlife Support Group – They are very concerned that local animal populations are being wiped out by pollution. The Cleaners Coleraine Borough Council – The neighbours to Moyle – they have spent a lot of money to stop their pollution going into the sea. They also spend a large amount every year cleaning the local beaches in Portrush and Portstewart. Portrush Beach Team – They walk along the beach every day to pick up litter that has been dropped by people. They hate to see the beach being polluted as ‘it is a hazard to the local bird population’. The Secret Group A press statement will be released by this group in the near future!
