TEXAS HISTORY CATTLE TRAILS / RANCHING PROJECT
DIRECTIONS :
You will be creating your own ranch in Texas during the late 1800’s. You will be publishing information about
your ranch in Power Point format to include a job advertisement for cowboys to come and work for you. Below
you will find the information you need to include in your Power Point.
GUIDELINES:

READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!

EACH SLIDE IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A TITLE

CATTLE KINGDOM POWER POINT PRESENTATION
Slide 1
1. The name of your ranch
2. Your name
3. You will be creating your own personal cattle brand (you will draw this on your presentation after it is
printed (the box on the slide will remain empty up until that point).

1. Include information about what type of cattle you have (look at information included in the handout),
why you chose to raise this type of cattle, how many head of cattle are one your ranch, and how many
will be going on the cattle drive to the market at the end of the cattle drive

1. Give a brief history of who started your ranch, how long you have been a rancher, and how you decided
on the cattle brand for your ranch
2. Tell the location of your ranch (this will be somewhere in Texas) and why you chose that location

Identify which cattle trail you will be using to take your cattle to market and why you chose that one. Be sure to
insert the map onto this slide. Be sure to include a map key for all of the trails. After you have printed your
presentation, you can highlight the trail on your paper. Be sure to include the slide title.
Slide 5
Describe a cattle drive that you have been on in the past. You can use your worksheet from yesterday as well as
information included in this packet for a resource and ideas. (Items to mention would be the trail conditions, the
weather, how long it took to complete, how far you travelled, how many cattle you had in your trail herd,
problems you encountered, how was the food on the drive).
Be sure to include at least one clipart related to cowboys, cattle drives or ranching as well as the slide title.
Slide 6
You are preparing to begin another cattle drive. As the trail boss, you are responsible for hiring any cowboys
that you will need. Select 2 positions from the Job Cards included in this packet and make a “Help Wanted”
poster on this slide. Information that must be included is: a) name of the position, b) a description of the job,
and c) any hazards that may be part of the job, and d) what the pay will be per month for the job.
Be sure to include at least one clipart related to cowboys, cattle drives or ranching as well as the slide title.
AFTER YOU ARE FINISHED WITH SLIDE 6, GO BACK AND READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AGAIN TO
MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOWED THEM.
